Bedroom engine cover

Hi All,

I have a 2001 Affinity B&B 42 w/ Tag, and I am trying to open the engine cover in the bedroom floor. I have the screws out, and it kind of opens, looks like it is hinged and about half of it opens. Appears the end against / under the bed pedestal doesn't want to move or come out or anything.

Anyone know how this is actually supposed to work?

If it is like my 2000 Magna, there are screws on the rear edge also. Once I got the nuts off those screws, I did not replace them. If you have an air mattress, let the air out before trying to lift the bed.

It would have been nice to have seen your comment as I would like to have heard what you had to say incase I am faced with having to pull off my cover.

I'll add to my previous comment to say that I use a piece of 1 1/2" pvc pipe long enough to span the opening for the cover as a roller. With all the nuts removed, I lift the forward edge of the cover a few inches, slide the pipe underneath with the ends of the pipe sitting cross wise across the opening. then slip the pipe back to the middle. Then, push down on the front edge of the cover and the back edge will be lifted off the bolts and then simply pulled forward enough to clear the bolts. Once the cover is forward a few inches you can lift the front up and use a prop to hold it up while you work.

I reverse the process to replace the cover.

My piece of pvc pipe is part of my flag pole so I always have it with me on the motor home. I use a small "crow bar", actually a cats-paw nail puller, to get under the front edge of the cover for the initial lifting.
