Dish vs. Direct Tv

Just to chime in here about Dish vs Direct TV. I have come to the conclusion that neither one likes people who want their services for their motorhomes. Last summer I installed a new HD Satelite dish on top of my coach. After purchasing 2 new HD TVs I called Dish Network to bring me 2 new HD receivers. I had decided to switch from Direct to Dish because of the constant hazzle to put my service in suspension every fall when we put the coach in storage for the winter. I typically had the coach in storage a little over the 6 month allowance and I always had a long phone call with Direct TV customer service to get it extended. After have switched over to Dish Network, I had to give up and switch back to Direct TV. The final blow was after finally getting a service tech to come out to the coach with 2 receivers, as he was leaving he said "Oh by the way, you won't be able to get the regular local station in HD". That was the straw that broke my back because I would have to wait 45 days to apply for the Distant Newwork Stations. When I called Direct back they would only give me 1 of the 2 DNS that I had previously. It makes it very difficult when we are on the west coast and only have the NY feed. They originally told me that I could not have local stations but just found out that I already have local stations. Another thing that really tics me off is that I have been a customer of Direct TV since back when they first started in the early 1980's and I have not gotten one thing from them free. They are always advertising to sign up with them you can get ujp to 4 rooms of equipment free. I had to pay over $300 for my 2 receivers. I have spent manhy hours on the phone talking with their customer service people over the years that I have been motorhoming (since 1999).

My 2 cents worth.

Why won't you be able to get the local networks in HD with Dish? I do everywhere i go.

Just like lobbying through congress, there is strength in numbers. Is there anyone with FMCA, Good Sam, or other high-volume membership of RV owners whatching this board who can leverage a better package deal with any satellite service provider? There's obviously a market for a better product suitable for part-time customers. Rob, #30146, '98 CC Allure 36'

I've had DirecTV in my home since 1997 and in a motorhome since 1999. They love to lavish gifts (free HBO, etc. ) on "longtime customers"?. I moved from one house to another (about 5 miles) in 2002, so this became my new "anniversary"?date. Then, (as previously mentioned) they cancelled the wrong account and therefore deemed my "anniversary date"? to be 2007 (when I opened the "new"? account to accommodate what they told me I had to do to get DNS). So, in their view, I've been a customer for only 7 years and therefore not worthy of any "freebies"?. Just one more irritant, but not much choice...they're both unfriendly to customers new and old!
If I win the lottery, I will attempt to start a new satellite TV service with only RV'ers in mind!

You better win several lotteries, as to launch a satellite TV service would cost billions of dollars.

I have used DTV for nearly 25 years and I find their product to be excellent. Customer service, that's not so great. They don't have a clue what to do with RVers, and their policies are unfriendly. But aside from customer service and the cost, I am very happy.
