Help! Ideas...Our tag axle tire is bald

Were in the mountains outside of lake Tahoe. Just noticed our tag axle is bald on passenger side. It was ok, or at least close enough to Ok when we left home 700 miles ago not to have noticed it. They both are at 95 pounds of air, the other 7 tires all look factory fresh, they are all 6 years old, with 25,000 miles on them. Ideas as to what happened? We planned on staying two more weeks. I will call a logging truck tire place Monday where I know the owner. Were 40 miles of mountain roads from no where. I'm sure he can replace the tire where we sit, but what else do I look for as to clause? Thanks mike

I would look for the placard with weight ratings and the recommended tire pressures. I believe you will

find that your suppose to have 120 lbs on your front and tag tires and 110 to 115 on the duals.

Second your tires should have been replaced before you accepted the coach.
Third, you need to get to

a competent bus shop and have the alignment checked on the tags. A friend of mine with a 06 Magna

had a similar issue. He took the bus to Colton truck terminal and they said the tag was not properly

aligned from the get go. Jay Howard paid for the tire, but not the alignment. My observation was if CC trusted Colton truck to be their best solution when there were alignment issues on the west coast and

the south west US then why didn't CC pay ? I assume you have 12R or 295 on thew tags. Goodyear

tires don't hold up well for scrubbing and Toyo's tread belt is very subject to failure. TWI 2004

Does the tire still have air pressure? If so it was most likely a tread peel. What is the age of the tires?

And why is it that you don't believe the tire manufacturers tire pressure/weight charts? After all, not all coaches have the same weight on any given tire or axle. This post is not to be argumentative but rather to understand why you think the tire pressure placards, which are generally the same on all coches, are actually the best tire pressure information that should be used/believed. I also wondered when the Dynamax chassis began employing adjustable alighnment for rear axles.

It can happen on original tread as well as retread. If it does you see the cords and steel of the carcass.
If the tire looks like a worn out tread you didn't peel the tread.
Have had the coach within the last year or so? We have a tendency to "collect stuff" over time and our weight rises! What you may have is a heavy corner and with all the mountain roads the tire scuffed more than usual.

It can and does happen on new as well as retreads. It is usually a result of low air pressure and heat build up.
