What Do New DPs Have that CCs Don't?

Yahoo Message Number: 97069
Hello,

I posted the below on the CC forum at IRV2 but wanted to post it here as well...

========================================

As I mentioned previously in another post, my wife and I are going full-timing in either late 2015/early 2016 (will still have to work until 2018) and are doing the research to decide between a DP and a fifth wheel (New Horizons or Continental) pulled by an HDT. We are very interested in County Coaches and are pretty certain that if we decide on a DP it will be a Country Coach.

We have looked at 2014 Newmar DPs and have spent a lot of time researching and looking at pictures of Entegras. It appears that the better quality DPs (Newell, Foretravel, Country Coach, et al) had industry leading innovations earlier than some of the others (Newmar, Entegra).

What are the main things that current model RVs have that didn't exist (or were used sparingly) when Country Coaches were being built? A few things that I can think of are more use of LED lighting, better monitoring systems, diesel pollution devices, as well as all-electric coaches (could be wrong but don't think I've read of a CC that was all-electric). What else? Thank you for any info you may share.

Hey Larry, I can try to answer part of your question.

Three things that put a Country Coach head and shoulder above other pre-2010 DPs would be:
  • The Dynamax Chassis is superior to any other chassis built for comparable period coaches up to then;
  • The paint job on mid-range model CCs and up after 2005 is hard to beat;
  • The interior wood treatments are tops.

I probably double-posted as it took a while for this thread to come up so I posted it again. At any rate, someone over at IRV2 already set me straight on CCs having had all-electric coaches for quite awhile. For some reason that escaped my attention during all of my researching.

Any other differences? Thanks.

We looked at a lot off coaches while shopping for our 'retirement' rig. While we never considered buying new, we did look at many new coaches (Newmar, American Coach, others) what we saw in the newer DP's was mostly what we called 'fu fu.'. Glitzy cabinet finishes, fancy window treatments, outside TV's (didn't want one), and other things that had nothing to do with the basic bones of the coach.
Our 7 year old Allure has things that even some new DP's don't have; IFS, heater floors, 15K BTU heat pumps, Aqua Hot, residential fridge, built in surge protector, energy management system, and others. Even in the Entegra line of coaches, you have to buy the Cornerstone to get all those items.

As already mentioned, the Dynomax chassis is great. I don't believe the others use an 8" boxed frame.

We have an 08 Allure and also shopped some of the current higher end newer coaches. We came to the conclusion that Country Coach was way ahead of their time and some of the items in our coach are just out in the new models now. The only thing that was on our list that our coach didn't have was a fireplace. We have a bath and a half, residential fridge, heated floors, etc. Where some coaches have wallpaper walls, we have wood. Can't ask for more. We were looking for a full timing rig and found country coach to check almost all of the boxes and believe it's a quality vehicle. Also, all of the engine and chassis stuff that already was mentioned was key to the hubby!!

Incorrect. The Entegra Anthem has all those features and more, as standard equipment. Not knocking your CC, just correcting the record.

OK, I guess the newer models do. I do remember reading recently where Anthem owners were having to add their own surge protectors and energy management systems. I also have read threads where Anthem owners were upgrading to the Cornerstone to get some of the features that came standard on most of the CC's.
In any case, Entegra does seem to have hit a home run in terms of popularity with new buyers. I read where they are building a new facility to expand their manufacturing capacity.

I have done warranty work for Entegra and they always tell me make the owner happy and send us the bill. And they pay the bills..

I responded to this on the IRV2 posting too. But, I thought of another area that newer DP's our a bit different. Sure not a major item, and easily taken care of on older units.
Many newer coaches, mostly middle to higher end, are including several built in USB Charging area are included.

Hi Smitty...I agree that it may not be a major item but small things like this can often turn into a major project when everything is buttoned up and you are trying to retrofit so that it has an OEM look...somewhat akin to installing wall outlets in a new construction house prior to insulating and hanging drywall rather than afterwards.

Diesel Pusher, I believe the only category of coach CC ever built, with engine in back so "pushing" coach vs. front engine.
