warranties & preauthorizations!!

Yahoo Message Number: 97074
Hi folks,

Well, almost 90 days later, our coach is supposed to be ready to hit the road again. It seems we had a wire that needed to be a shielded wire to throttle, and was not. And how lucky we had purchased an after market warranty with Phoenix American. Rush Truck Center, in Buda, Tx, just north of Austin, did the fix. And for one of the issues, a dirty check valve they replaced, they had gotten pre authorization from the warranty office.
Well, here is the rub. They did NOT get pre authorization, before they fixed the wire issue. So, now we are sitting with a bill over $2,000., that most would have been covered, but because the truck center did not call the warranty company for preauthorization, that part is voided. We are NOT very happy. It was lazy on the part of the truck center. We are going to try to negotiate with the manager. But this is truly not a fair way to do business.
I feel like seeking some legal advice. Very unprofessional business practices. The only reason they had pre authorization the first time, was I insisted that they call the warranty company, while I stood there. I guess that was the last time they called them, until they wanted paid. wow..... Kay and Allan Neubauer 2010 Inspire

Kay and Allen,

I can sympathize with you. A couple of years ago I took my coach to Warren Cat to get a estimate to get a turbo gasket replaced and gave them a copy of my warranty and pointed out to them not to start any work on the coach until they were authorized to begin work. long story made short, they crashed my coach pulling it into the work bay doing $5300 damage then completely disassembled it before getting authorization. I got it back three months later along with a $7300 bill and a damaged coach. I wasn't very happy to say the least either.

Kevin, Did you take any recourse? I am frustrated enough to look into doing so. We purchased an expensive warranty, that does pay, and they voided the warranty by not making one simple phone call. Kay

Kay,

No I haven't taken any recourse. I always intended to do so but that was about 2 years ago and I not sure what the statute of limitations is on this in Oklahoma. They also laid all the hydraulic line on the exhaust pipe which pulled on the hydraulic fan motor and caused it to pull the threads out of the diverter valve on the bottom of it, spraying about a 1/8 stream of hydraulic oil on the exhaust pipe about 50 miles after they worked on it. The fan motor cost about an grand and all the hoses would have been about another thousand but I make a lot of machined parts for Aberdeen Dynamics and they made me all new hydraulic and fuel lines for cost. All warren Cat wanted to do was come out and move the lines off of the exhaust and not replace them or the fan motor. So I kick them off my property and repaired it myself as I would have done on the Turbo gasket if they would have given me a estimate showing me what they ended up charging me if the insurance would have deigned the claim for some other reason.
I feel my blood pressure rising.

Kay,

They did not void the warranty. But they may have screwed up payment on this repair.

Do you belong to Good Sam? Might try their Action Line, at least get something back! Here in California any work done with out preauthorization, of the owner, is not chargeable but if they have your unit it can be a problem getting it back without paying then you have to take them to court.

Oh jeez, the blood pressure, I understand!!!! That is what happens when you have to deal with repair facilities!! I have to say one GOOD thing. We had an issue where the Mesquite Southern Plains cummins repair came out to do some work . AND their service was Excellent!! Knowledgeable and quick. What a blessing to work with them! But that is the only place we have come across that is GOOD!! Kay 2010 Inspire

True. The entire warranty is not void, just the payment on this warranty issue!!! And we went into extreme detail about pre authorization with this repair facility. Ggrrrrrr..... Left "mama notes" n such about preauthorization and numbers of company and rv number, contract info, the whole nine yards. Kay

Yes. I have been informed by the repair facility that this WILL be paid, before they will release the coach......

Another possibility is do they have a licensing authority like CA's Bureau Auto Repair, BAR? These are the people that enforce estimates and proper billing practices.

Well, I have not heard of that in Texas. There is the Better Business Bureau. Which they are not signed up with. And it says that they have handled their "issues" to satisfy the customer. I have asked my warranty company to send me a written letter testifying to the fact that they had refused to pay the claim due to non preauthorization. We will take that with us next week, and speak directly to the manager at the top, in hopes he will make a compromise. The repair company was neglegent in this. Thanks for everyone's ideas. Kay
