Hi All,

Does anyone have experience with the "Blue Ox Patriot" braking system or a recommendation on braking systems for my toad, a 2013 Ford Edge SE FWD 2.0L I4 Ecoboost.
Coach is 2006 40' Inspire 400hp C9

I would recommend M&G engineering system first, as I have great experience with them with 4 different vehicles over the past 14 years or so. Just plug and go. It also has provisions to apply the brakes in case of separation from the coach a requirement in Texas. The other is Air Force one system. Its a little more involved but will work on a few more models. Friends of mine have the system on their coaches and are very happy. In either case they are plug and go. No boxes to deal with and no compromises to the the cars braking system like with the boxes that push on the brake pedal.

I have a 2013 Edge and using a evenbrake from camping world. What ever one you buy make sure the add a charging wire as the sync system will drain the battery on long tows

George,

I have that system and I like it but... No real problems with the system, more of an irritation. At times the front control unit losses contact with the braking system in the car and start beeping. can go on for about 10-15 mins in length, then goes away and all is fine. The vehicle braking system takes up extra space for storage. The system has an internal battery in the part that is positioned in the vehicle. According to Blue Ox, if you change the battery yourself, you void any warranty on the device. Good luck on your choice.

George,

I have had the Air Force One braking system for 7 years. Never had a problem. Connect the air connection and the break away wire and your ready to go. Can be moved to another tow car if you like.

I have used the M & G Engineering for 15 years with several toads and prefer it to all others. Easy to hook up and nothing inside the cabin of the toad.

We have the Air Force One by SMI. Great system and it can be transferred to another vehicle if you chose. Looked at the new Roadmaster but because it operates off the brake light signal from the Coach and not the Air Brake, decided not to go that way because on our coach, when the exhaust brake is engaged it sends a signal to the coach brake lights and therefore would also engage the brakes on the tow vehicle. Better to use the actual air brake system on the coach to engage the tow vehicle brakes.

P.S. The Civic Hybrid has a CVT and the 2003 to 2005 model years are towable 4 down. Not sure if the 2015 Honda CRV transmission will be towable or not. Some CVT trannys are and some are not.
