Any major issues with 2006 Allure 470 37'?

Yahoo Message Number: 98004
I searched here first and didn't find any topics that covered this. I don't know if issues like fiberglass cracking are involved with this year coach.
Any help or things to look at on this model would be appreciated. thanks,
Will

The "cracking" of the fiberglass was common in 2005 to about 2007. It pretty much occurs where the fiberglass is painted black, or dark colors. It is also not unique to Country Coach--I have seen the same on high-line American Coach products. The issue is more cosmetic than structural, and I suspect a repaint in a light color after preparation would cure the issue. If you are looking at a coach and it has not happened yet, it probably won't. Radiators and dry Power TakeOffs (PTOs) were also issues. The 37 footer has super maneuverability, but does not have a lot of storage underneath. But you get the Country Coach heavy-duty chassis, and more load capacity than you'll ever need!

They major issues on my 2006 Allure have been the fiberglass checking in the paint and the PTO issue.

From what I have observed it is not the fiberglass that cracks but the clearcoat that "crazes" which was a big problem in the 70's on cars and again in the 90's. The only permanent fix I have ever seen was to sand down and reshoot at least the clear. If the checking is bad enough and old enough may need a complete repaint.

It is not the clearcoat that is the issue, it is the fiberglass panels themselves. Country Coach bought some inferior fiberglass--it was used on the "lesser" coaches like the Allure. Apparently when the fiberglass panels are painted with dark colors, the fibers break through and result in the "checking". There was a lawsuit, but about the time it was settled, Country Coach went bankrupt, and owners generally ended up with no reimbursements. We have original owners on this forum who can give you more details . Refinishing the affected areas and repainting with a light color should resolve the issue. Dark colors don't belong on a coach anyway--IMHO!

There are only a couple of shops that will repair the checking on the coach and give you a warranty. The estimates I received were in the range of $30,000 and six weeks for a complete paint job of your design and color; or $20,000 and they only paint the flat fiberglass panels (which is the issue) and you retain the original colors and design because they don't paint the end caps and lower metal panels.
