Coach Mirrors Peeling

I wish I could take credit for this but I actually got the idea from someone on the American Coach Forum.

My chrome mirrors were peeling to the point I was going to buy new ones since they looked so bad. Some time ago I got the idea, from the AC Forum, to have them sprayed with what is used for truck bed liners and other things. One of AC members had this done to his mirrors.

I contacted the local Line-X dealer for my area and asked if he could spray my mirrors. They had to sand blast all the remaining chrome to get to bare metal and then do the Line-X spraying followed by a top coat. I am very pleased with how they came out. For the difference in price between now ones and having these painted I got use to the black very fast. They actually look very nice with the texture finish.

I removed the mirrors myself and took them to the dealer.

I will also get them  to do my steps.

This is just FYI and I have no financial interests in Line-X.

Thanks Ricard,  The refinish looks great.  I have been trying to decide what i was going to do with my mirrors.  Can you give me so pointers on removing the mirrors and the approx cost for refinishing.  We must have sister coaches!

Here is another method of fixing the peeling mirrors. Lots of custom car people us it to change the color of their wheel rims and to hide the chrome http://www.plastidip.com/. It can be applied with a spray can and it is very durable.

There are four long screws holding the mirrors on and the heads are under the little pop off covers out front. You can reach the washers and nuts for the screws from inside the coach. Remove the panel in front of the passenger seat and the cover over the instrument panel to access the nuts. Helps to have long arms. Best to use a small deep well socket set. If the nuts are tight you may need someone on the outside to use a large flat head screw driver to hold the screw from turning. Once the nuts are off and the wires are unhooked, you can just pull the mirror off. The gasket may be stuck but it will come off with the mirror. Make a new gasket to replace the old one. You can make it out of any type of soft sheet rubber or vinyl.

Easy job and plan on $350+ for sandblasting and Line-X. Perfect solution for my application and wish I had known about it years ago. The chrome on my mirrors was in very bad shape.

This is also an option for our chalking and peeling clear coat on the roof but very expensive to do that. They can match our color.
