Hurricane heater

Hello.all,

I had an interesting occurrence yesterday with our Hurricane.  It was chilly in the early AM, and I started the heater about 5 AM, it ran normally for a couple of hours, and then would not continue running.  It would light as normal, but would go out after a few seconds.  I pulled the side cover and checked that the air compressor was functioning properly, it was.  I then removed the flame detector to clean it and it looked great.  I then observed the clear plastic fuel filter looked really black.  Hmmm!  So off to Auto Zone for a new filter, installed without drooling to much fuel and viola, it's working properly again.  I am usually a bit OCD with PM, but that one slipped by.  Needless to say, I would suggest that filter be replaced more frequently.  I'm thinking it had been several years since I replaced it.

Uhhh. My Magna has the Hurricane in the rear passenger side compartment with only a hole in the floor for incoming air and the exhaust pipe. My Hurricane works great. Only complaint is noise when I'm in bed.

Evere since I changed my Hurricane fuel lines 2years ago,  it has been running like a top with no hicups.

I had to change fuel lines to my Hydro-hot, and generator.  I finally got tired of different Cummins shops playing around so 5 years ago I had Bob Snooks replace the fuel lines and haven't had any intermittent problems since.  TWI 2004 Intrigue 11731

Hello,

We have a 2003 CC Intrigue -- Hurricane heater flamed out often would not run long -- we were not able to use it. We took the coach to Tom Johnson's, Marion, N.C. and Lazy Days in Seffner, Fl - both said they could not find a problem; the heater continued to flame out and was not usable.

We drove from Virginia to Georgia to get it serviced; the RV tech fixed it and our hot water heater which would only work on propane.

If you live anywhere near Georgia -- email me; there is an independent an RV Tech who works on high end coaches at a very reasonable rate. You may want to speak with him before changing out your Hurricane. email me @ baybay_23602@... for his telephone number if you are interested.

Our Hurricane heater kept doing flame outs  I replaced the filter with the NAPA filter # 3053

You must install securely and horizontal with the outlet coming off the top.  This filter is clear plastic so you can view into the filter to make sure there are no air bubbles coming from a leaky fuel line.

So far the heater started easy and ran for an hr in a test I did and did not have any flame outs.

to all who have a hurricane heater with the little chrome air cleaner  throw it away. take the baffle out of the hole in the floor. Go to the parts house buy a small (hot rod air cleaner) . Drop the bolt thru the hole you now need across bar across the hole withe a hole thru the center of the cross bar with aself locking nut. tighten the nut and this will secure the air cleaner to the hole in the floor, You now have lots of make up air plus a nice clean compartment. hope this will help some one.    Rex Woods 2003 Intrigue

I still have the chrome air filter on my Hurricane (changed element a few times) and have never opened the air "baffle" in the 13 years and 4,500 hours that I have used the furnace. I guess air flow to the furnace compartment may be different on different coaches but mine runs well without any added openings.
 I lived in the coach one winter in upstate New York. I won't say that I ran around in my skivvies but we stayed warm.

In regards to the nice chrome air cleaner that sits on top of the unit, the Hurricane people told me to throw it away as it does more harm than good. There is an air filter on the inside of the unit.

I received the same advice from an authorized Hurricane service shop... Get rid of the air cleaner on top of the unit.  I like the idea of adding a filter in the floor opening for intake combustion air.
