Hurricane Questions

I have an C045 DRF Hurricane heater for my furnace. This is the small one..... it does a great job for as heating the coach.... my question does the thermostat have to be on for the freeze protection to work? I know there is a switch at the control panel that I just leave on that controls Hurricane. Also will the freeze protection work with the heat pumps on? This hurricane that I have only does the furnace and only works off diesel. I have a propane / electric HWH.....most of my friends that have CC's have the one that heats your water, furnace and engine I believe. That unit works off of diesel and electric. Is it possible to have the heat pump on zone 1 and the furnace on zone 2 at the same time? Any help would be great. Thanks.

Gary, I have the same unit, and have been traveling from WI and now I'm SC. Temps have been in the low teens some nights, and the Hurricane has performed flawlessly.

I have used every configuration you've mentioned. On my panel there are two switches. One for the main system and one for the coach. If the main system switch it on, and your power switch is on in the bay, your freeze protection is on. I have run in this configuration on warmer nights with the heat pumps on, but the coach Hurricane off and one morning it got colder than expected and the Hurricane fired up and provided the freeze protection for the bay's.

I have also run the front heat pump and the bedroom with the furnace (hurricane) a couple of times just to see if that configuration worked.

The only issue I have had is the minute you start the unit, it drains the radiator reservoir. I was worried about this until I ran the coach for a while, and everything was back to normal levels.

Stay warm!
