Extended Warranties

Two questions on extended warranties...

    • We have received quotes from two companies and the cost seems prohibitive.  One was from Wholesale Warranty and one from United States Warranty...both in the general neighborhood of $5000 for 2 years coverage.  Is that the state of things today?  Does anyone out there have other suggestions, as it is about time for us to renew (we are presently with Wholesale Warranty).
    • How do I find old posts from past postings on this subject?  Can't figure out how to get to those?

    Thanks for your help, folks!

Personally we've been putting a couple of thousand dollars each year in an account just for a future big repair. So far we're well ahead with funds vs repairs and that includes repairs a warranty wouldn't have covered. I know it sounds risky, but $5K or more every two years whether I have a repair or not also sounds pretty risky.

We purchased a 4 year 50.000 mile warrant thru Warranty Warehouse last November for 4,892.  The company is Portfolio Protection. Sounds like prices have gone way up. We did get. Prepay discount plus a 10 percent discount. It has a $200 per visit deductible. We have used it twice. Both times they paid about $1,000.

I also have Easy Care. The first 4 years with $ 100 deduct was about $ 6,800. Now I'm my secoind 4 year contract which I went to $500 deduct for about $4.800. Continue to hear good things about Whosale Warrnty. Good luck. Buddy Bordes06 Inspire 360 #51887    62,000 milesmade about 3/4 of my money back on the first contract. So far on the second contract after 20 months no claims.

The first thing to understand about Extended Warranties is that there are different levels of coverage... are you buying stated coverage or exclusionary?  We bought a premium exclusionary policy from USWC Eagle a couple years ago - you would have to check their current price. Of course a lot also depends on the year of the coach and the number of miles on it.  They  have been OUTSTANDING in covering repairs we have needed.  I would renew with them in a heartbeat.  Buying any warranty is like health insurance... you HOPE you won't get your money's worth, but salting away money each year only works if you have minor stuff go wrong. If you blow an engine or transmission, you could salt away a couple grand each year for a decade and probably STILL be in the hole.  USWC has a couple levels of stated coverage... the cheaper policy has a shorter list of what they do cover.  The most complete coverage is the exclusionary policy which means simply that if it is not specifically listed on the policy as "excluded" they will cover it. They have been great.  I will renew with them when the present one expires.  I bought mine through Oregon Motor Coach in Eugene.  Talk to Vern there... they can get you the best deal.

My Easy Care policy expired in August (it was $8,400 for 4 years with a $250 deductible).  They were fairly pushy in trying to "re-up" me, having started bombarding me with phone calls offering a discount if I extended (calls a year in advance of policy expiration!).  Most recently, and near my expiration, they told me that it was their policy NOT to renew a policy that had expired...how stupid is that?  That policy alone moved me to let the policy expire...they quoted $10K+ for 4 more years).
I also had quotes from Wholesale Warranties which, while more reasonable, just didn't make sense.  I think that the only way such an expenditure would make sense is if I experienced to experience a severe engine or transmission problem and I am willing to take the risk that that won't happen to the Cat C-13.  So, I've decided to "set aside" money each quarter to cover unforeseen repair expenses.  With my last policy (Easy Care) I did have the radiator replaced, but I am willing to take the risk that something of that magnitude won't hap[pen again in four years.

First time I've "gone naked", so time will tell.
