VMS 200 EL-oil pressure?

My VMS 200 EL Does not show the current oil pressure, just stays at 55psi. It is the 370 ISL Engine, do others here get the reading?

Bill, several months ago Cummins changed the type of sender/switch that connects to our Silverleaf. I explain: the prior sender/switch provided the actual oil pressure readout to the Silverleaf, but unfortunately that sender/switch was also sending a false reading to the the Engine to SHUTDOWN. So people were going down the highway and this sender/switch for some reason would send a low pressure oil signal to the engine and shut it down.

So, Cummins changed to a sender/switch thats what I call Static or hardwired unit that will shut the engine down if Oil Pressure really goes down to 8 Psi or so, but will always show a reading on your Silverleaf of 55 PSI.

Bottom line your Silverleaf for Oil Pressure reading is not usable.

Mike, thanks for that info. That is the first I had heard of the change, I thought I was the only one not getting the reading. My coach is only 14 units later than yours, it was built late Nov. 2002

Can you not use a short nipple and TEE to allow installation of the missing analog oil transducer and the new Cummings oil pressure 'switch' ?

On a side note, have many folks have had problems with the CC installed oil pressure switch that controls the House-Engine battery inter-tie relay and the low oil pressure lamp on the console?

On a recent trip across I-10 (bump.bump.bump) my low oil pressure lamp came on, after a second or two of panic, I noted that the oil pressure gauge and the VMS-200 were reporting good oil pressure and the pressures seem to vary normally with engine speed.

The oil pressure lamp went out a few miles down the road. Not sure if the problem cleared or the lamp burned out. (will have to watch the lamp on the next startup).

Actually , the light goes out when the relay is energised. I installed it.
To prove the point, my switch failed last year and my LED stays lit but the light on the dash operates as normal If I push the battery combiner button the LED goes out, as would the relay if it wer activated. Consiquently my batteries(house)+(echo) are only charged via the inverter. They are still good and original (late 1999) I did purchace a new switch but to date am not incouraged to install it from an electrical point of view.

Hummmm...

My drawing shows a single pole, double pole pressure switch.
In the no-op or no oil pressure mode it puts a ground out to the light on the console. In the operated (have pressure) the contact swings the ground to the inter-tie relay.

The console low oil pressure lamp ground does not come from the ECM like I figured it would!

Maybe a design change??

Well you sent me to studing the schematic.
Let me first identify the numbers of mine...#S0699.07 4/7/98 modified Oct 11th/99, pages 4 0f 5 and 5 0f 5 large pages in the back and dash wiring picturial sheet2 of 3 dated2/8/94 revised Dec 02/98, and electrical symbols sheet dated 1/17/90, and Domestic charge & boost systems schematic #S0478.84 dated 9/1/95 revised June 11/99.
On the last mentioned dwg. the relay is #4 PSI [NO] switch, that and the consol rocker switch are the only thing that energises the battery boost solonoid.

On S0699 4 of 5 it is shown as switch #5 as a single pole double throw PSI switch but the [NC] contact is not used but the switch functions identically.

The oil gage has a red light in it which goes out upon knowing there is oil pressure. Looking at the back of the gage I can identify the top terminal as the dimmer controled power to the light bulb, The left terminal #36 wire comes froom the #1 oil pressure sensor, the higher center terminal is from Ground, # 34 is a common wire to several gauges, and I was not able to find where it went to.
It is my guess that the light (red) in the oil guage goes out as a result of an internal switch breaking the circuit when pressure arrives at the guage.

It will be interesting to know if yours is wired differently James M. Green Intrigue #11021 ISC 350

The oil pressure switch (OPS) is a single pole double throw.

A 16g Green is wired to the common. (GND)
Wire #24A, 16g Blue runs from the NO contact of the OPS to the Boost Solenoid (shown on page 2 of5) on the same terminal of the Boost Solenoid (relay winding) it joins wire #178 a 16g Black that runs to the boost switch.

The NC contact of the OPS has wire #24, 16g Black that runs to the Oil Pressure Light (on the left side of the console). (via plug DC3) The light has 12v on the other side of it.

If both contacts are ok on the OPS, the OPS lights the light with no/low oil pressure and also operates the boost relay when pressure is present.
My oil gauge has only a single white lamp in it that is wired the the dash dimmer.

The gauge (S) is driven the the other (analog/resistor) pressure sensor.
I'm going

to guess that your gauge has a built in switch for the lamp. (more $$$??)
So it is clear (and I did check that it is wired that way) a change was made

somewhere along the line.

I looked at Fred's LED mod, Even with the way my OPS is wired I think it's a good idea to have the LED.

I am also still at a loss to explain the oil pressure lamp lighting the way it did. I

checked the connections at the switch on the engine, at the plug and up in the

dash. None seem to be loose or exposed to shorts/grounds.
Someone once told me to remember it's things like this that make a 'Custom Coach'. To be even more 'Custom' it's not supposed to be built/wired per the drawings provided!
