fuel gauge

My fuel gauge reads over full whether the tank is 1/2 full or not.  Has anyone had this problem and can give me an answer.  Thanks

Hi Bob

My fuel gauge got stuck on full no matter what was in the tank. I replaced the fuel sending unit in the tank and solved the problem.
I got the new sender from Country Coach.

The fuel level transmission unit is a very simple device.  I adjusted the accuracy of my device by simply and carefully bending the float up or down a little bit at a time.  From what you write, it is my guess that you float should be bent "up".  What I did was the following.....
1.  Start with a full tank.
2.  Assuming that you know your approximate mileage performance of your coach, On your next trip drive a planned distance 210 miles......assuming that you normally average 7 mpg., that would use 30 gallons of fuel. Pull into a truck stop, remove the sending and bend the arm/float up a but and then re-onsert into the tank.  Check the gauge reading.  Does it now show approximately a 30 gal reduction.  Then make a minor adjustment, bending up or down as needed.
3.  Fill up, then insure that you did use 30 gal.  Note the gallons used and save the data for the next stop.
4.  At the next stop, repeat the above procedure.
The removal of the fuel sending unit is quite simple assuming that you have easy access to the top of the fuel tank.

This process worked well for me after I replaced a broken sender.

Good luck.

We have the same problem on our 2000 Magna - fuel gauge showing an over  full, pegged to the right reading. I would love to try your suggestion, but the  sending unit is apparently in the center of the tank and I can't reach it  through the side door port. Any suggestions short of dropping the tank would be  welcome.

I also had a bad sending unit. I got a new unit from Country Coach and went to my local Cat dealer where they did a partial drop of the tank to replace the unit.

We have a 2005 Country Coach Allure and my dash gauge registered empty all the time, even after filling up with diesel. Late last year I took it to a very reputable RV shop in Florida (former CC employee), during a vacation. They checked it out and theorized it was a faulty "sending" unit inside the tank since the gauge tested OK. The only way to confirm this was to order a new sending unit from CC and install it. We ordered and paid for the unit which cost $150 and it arrived by 2-day air.
Getting to the sending unit which was mounted on top of the fuel tank was through an inspection plate located in the rear wall of the right front wheel well. (The front wheels must be locked hard right to expose the plate). That's how it worked on our Allure and it was not necessary to drop the tank. There was another inspection plate in the forward pass-through basement compartment but it was too great a distance to the sending unit. After much work removing and installing the new sending unit, they discovered that the problem was a loose wire, not a bad sending unit. I now have an extra 17 1/2" sending unit which I don't need. (The new unit was installed in my coach for the test only so the gasket looks used). Upon learning of the loose wire, the old unit was re-installed and works just fine.
Sending units can be removed and then tested by attaching the powered dash gauge wires on long leads to the sender, which is then lowered into a tube containing diesel fuel. As you lower the instrument into the fuel, it should change the reading of the gauge. The deeper the instrument goes, the higher the gauge should read. This also helps to determine if you have a faulty gauge or just loose wires. I'm not an RV tech so there may be several other tests to conduct but that's how it was accomplished on ours. The technicians who worked on our sender were great. I'm sorry we didn't locate the loose wire sooner but sometimes problems must be eliminated step by step.
IF anyone happens to need a sending unit, I'd sell it for and send it in the packaging it came in. I have no use for it and would be happy to give someone a good buy. The manufacturer is Centroid, Part #3000, made in April 2014. I have attached 2 photos of the sender and packaging. Check with your RV repair person and let me know if you'd like it. May your problem only be a loose wire!

Have you sold the sender? I know it has been awhile, but now I need one.

Thanks, Jack

Don't think that will work. I removed mine and its made by transfer flow and only about 4'' long other than the 16'' float arm attached to it. Easy to remove just sort of hard to get to over LP tank, but doable.
