Allison transmission torque converter will not lock up

Yahoo Message Number: 98640
I have a friend with a 2000 Magna with the 4000 series Allison transmission. They are having a problem where the torque converter on occasion will not lock up. They know this because of higher RPM at a given cruise speed also if they accelerate hard if feels like the transmission is slipping. They taken the coach to two different Allison repair centers and of course the transmission works normal. There are no codes and appears no damage to the transmission yet. They have found on occasion they can cycle the key switch seven times from off to on and the torque will function normally for a while. The problem is intermittent was wondering if anyone has experienced this.

Hi,

Here are 2 things you might try. They may be a long shot but both are  pretty easy. Usually if the brake lights are on the converter unlocks. Check to  be sure the brake lights are not on when this happens. A sticking brake light  switch could cause this. The easiest way to test this is to disable the brake  lights for a test drive. Yea, I know brake lights are required, but it is the  easiest way. The other way is to have a follow car .
Nest, change the fuel filters If the engine cannot meet demand the trans  unlocks the converter.
