Michelin FMCA Advantage Prices

Yahoo Message Number: 99207
Can someone tell me what the prices are for the XZE 12R/22.5 and XZA2 Energy 295/80R at the moment. You can PM me if you like. Also, has anyone replaced their rear 12R/22.5 with the 295/80R's? On my Magna with tag the 315's won't fit given the rim size and dual spacing, I think.

Thanks

I replaced my 12R/22.5 with 295/80R's in the spring last year on my Inspire. I don't have a tag. Works fine. I used Bob Dickman in Junction City to do the conversion.

When I looked at the prices, they weren't any better than I could get locally and the closest dealer who was in the program was 100 miles away!

Joined FMCA and was going to utilize Michelin program.  Wanting to put 315 80R/22.5 on the coach and the tire dealer had to order them (2 months ago) because of back order.  They are still not in, and was told it could be another 6 weeks.  I'm leaving in 3 weeks from Illinois to Florida as snowbirds, so 6 weeks won't be an option to wait.  Tire dealer is suggesting the same size tire in Hankook rather than Michelin which he has those in stock.  Never heard of Hankook and wanted to see if anyone on this forum has or has them on their coach that could offer an opinion.  I currently have Michelin 12R/22.5 on the coach but was told the 315's are designed more for coaches and the 12R's are now used primarily on trucks.  Or any ideas where I can locate the 315's?  Thank you all!

Make sure you check clearances before trying to install 315's. some folks have to use 295's.    I used Continentals, because like you there was a back order situation 3 years ago.    Due to edge wear I have to run  the same pressures I did with 12 R's using 315's.  So 120 lbs on the front and tag and 115 lbs on the duals.    I'm putting Hankook on my 2500 Dodge diesel as I only use the truck for short trips any more and don't feel justified spending over a $1000.00  for  pickup  tires.  TWI 2004 Intrigue 11731

We just replaced our 12R 22.5 tires with Michelin XZE Energy 295 80R 22.5 Load range H, and are very happy with them. We purchased them at Olin Mott Tires in Tampa FL.  We used the FMCA program.  The size works fine. The only thing it affects is the speedometer.  It's about 2 mph difference. If that matters you can have it reset at Cummins.  We left it alone.

We just purchased the same tires for our 04 Intrigue ovation.
The Michelins are a nicer ride. We bought ours on Upper Michigan.

Thanks! I will check into the clearances on the 315's again. Tire dealer assured me the dimensions matched the 12R's exactly but now I wonder if the 295's would be more suitable. I called Michelin yesterday and was told tires would be manufactured next week and shipped to the tire dealer the following week so maybe I can postpone leaving for FL a few days until the tires arrive. Thanks to all of you for your assistance!

The issue isn't the diameter of the tire but the width of the tire on the 315.  And the issue isn't the front as it it is the duals.    On Ovations for instance if you have the 400 ISL engine  the 315's will fit.  If you have the C-12 or C-13 they won't fit as they will scrape the fiber glass wheel well opening with the higher rated rear axle.  Plus you need to verify the dual tires side walls don't rub against each other.  Thats why I run 115 lbs  to make sure the side walls ballon out and rub.  If you run 295's they are just enough narrower and smaller in diameter that they clear  on most coaches.    To get more info Call Bob Dickman Les Schwab in Junction City, Oregon and ask for Paul.  TWI 2004 Intrigue 11731

PS.  I would  deflate the air bags of the coach with the tires mounted and rotate the front tires from extreme left to right and check for rub.    Plus you have to realize the tires can shift horizontally some too  the  when you take sharp corners.

We have the same tires - Michellin XZA-2 295/80R22.5 - we had them on our Country Coach and had them transferred to the Allegro Bus when we traded up.  They are definitely designed for motorhomes and are the perfect tire, IMHO.  I would not be installing larger tires than what was factory OEM.  We purchased ours from Les Schwab who is all over the west coast I believe.

I put the same XZA2 Energy on my 2007 Inspire 2 years ago. Wonderful ride. Would not go with anything else. Used the FMCA Michelin Program thru Redlands Truck and RV in Redlands CA.

I put the XZA2 tires using FMCA advantage program last year, I called dealers throughout the country to get prices and FMCA advantage program saved me about $100 per tire so I was very happy to use the program. I did have to wait almost 6 months before I found any dealer with the tires, at any price!

I brought up the concern of the 315's being too wide of a tire, and the manager of the local tire dealer agreed and felt somewhat embarrassed that he did not catch this concern himself.  After further discussion with him (and I also called Michelin Advantage) along with the knowledge received from all of your e-mails, the manager and I agreed the best solution for me would be the 295/80R/22.5 XZA 2 Energy for all six tires.  The 315's were still on back order, but they DID have eight 295's in stock with very fresh DOT dates.  I am having these new tires put on the coach this week and will be in great shape for leaving for Florida on schedule.  No worries about back orders.

If it were not for this great group of people always ready and willing to offer advice and assistance, this would have been a totally different outcome.  Thank you all for assisting me!  It is very much appreciated!

We went on two trips this year, from ElPaso to Fredericksburg and Buckhorn for a CCF rally this Spring continuing on to Houston, San Antonio and Home.  We averaged 8.4 mpg, facing a lot of head winds and thunderstorms in March April and May.  Then in June we went from EP to Tucson to see Eric at Premiere to have a slide room HWH solenoids replaced, to Phoenix- Palm Desert, Morrow bay,  Santa Rosa, Eureka, Bandon, Coos bay,  Eugene area, Portland,  Astoria, Coosbay, Sutherlin, Yreka, Calistoga, Sacramento, Reno,  Salt lake, Durango, Albuquerque and home.  4696 miles and 8.86 mpg.  I'm pretty impressed.  We installed one of Scientific systems wax valves and tossed the Sauer Dan foss fan controller 2 years ago.  I was guessing as the engine runs cooler now, which means the fan is running more of the time that fuel milage would drop, but I was wrong, the fuel milage went up over 0.7 mpg from a similar trip two years ago.  And what was nice was the highest price we paid for fuel even including Calif was 2.69 a gallon as opposed to 3.99, two years earlier.  I guess with 102000 miles on the old 400 ISL she has finally broken in.  By the way, we weigh close to 45,000 going down the road pulling the CR-v this trip according to free Oregon Scales.  I was also running 67 mph where road conditions permitted.  I have had 6 Danfoss controllers in 12 years, with the first one lasting 5 years, and having had to pay for 3 of the remaining 5, I said I had enough.  OMC was tired of paying for free replacements too. The Gen Manager at Cummins Northwest in Coburg, Lyle Weatherholt.  and Eric recommended , I go with the wax valve and I did.  I'm happy.  TWI 2004 Intrigue 11731

As far as your rears are concerned, I replaced my Michelin 12 R's with Bridgestone R 250s and I like them much better than the Michelins.

I got six of those 12R22.5 Bridgestones from Cross Midwest Tire for $232 apiece- about $400/tire less than the Michelin deal through FMCA. I'll report back on how they ride.

Tim, you mean R250's for $232? That's half of what I paid for them. Sure you didn't get retreads? Rich 2002 Magna

Just to make sure we're talking all apples, they were $232 plus FET, mounting with new valves, and balancing. The tires, themselves, had special pricing from Bridgestone during the month of July. And they're new, date code 5214.
