Atwood Water Heater Issue

Jerry,

Thanks for your insight... On your rocker switch, do you know what this switch does? Does it control a valve or?

I have tried everything everyone else has suggested with minimal results. So the only thing left is the switch you are suggesting of which I plan on pulling the panel off to see if I have the switch you are talking about. Just was wondering what the switch's function maybe, if you know.

Thanks for your help.

I have an Atwood Water Heater model: GC10A-4E that has stopped working on the gas side. The electric side heats water just fine.
Description  of problem: When I flip the switch at the control panel the gas comes  on and I have flame ignition for about 2 seconds, then the system shuts  down. The system repeats this sequence three times, then the red light  on my control panel lights up. I can turn the switch off and back on and  get the same result time after time.
My thinking is that a sensor that is suppose to detect the flame is malfunctioning.
When  I called Atwood and described my problem they said it was most likely  my main control board. I would like to get other opinions/confirmations  before ordering a new main board.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you,

Ron Jacobs

Ours did about the same thing.  One control board later and the problem was solved.

Ron,  I had the same problem a few years ago.  My son-in-law's uncle had the same heater in his coach and we swapped main boards and it cured my problem, so I ordered a new board  (aprox $150) and it did fix the problem.  I probably paid too much for the board and you should shop around and will most likely find it for less.  All the best, Denny

I have had this problem, it turned out to be a spider web in the mixer tube. I ran a small brush thru it and all was well.

Several different boards are listed on Amazon.  Most rv repair facilities will have a tester to check your board.

Ron,

I would pull each electrical connector off and push them in and out to "brighten" each contact. Or, after removing, spray the contacts with some tuner cleaner available at Radio Shack. I do this periodically and apply dialectic grease to each connection. This is cheap to try before condemning the circuit board.

Today I replaced the control board on the gas side of my Atwood water heater. If you have been following this post, I just wanted to let everyone know, this solved the problem.
