Steering Stabilizer

Greetings,

I am considering installing a steering stabilizer on my 06 Inspire and would appreciate any feedback/ advice.
Is it worth it?

Brand recommendation etc.

Thanks,

George Magee

When I owned my 98 Allure with a straight front axle and a single rear axle with the large over hang I seriously considered adding a steering stabilizer.  Changing tires from 275 R 70 to 275R 80 countered some of the steering issues.  I had a chance to drive a Dynasty at the 99 FMCA rally with a stabilizer and the change was a little smaller that I thought it would be.  When I went to the factory in late 99 for a rally and to get my service under warranty CC replaced the Monroe shocks,  adjusted the ride height which improved handling.  The next year the changed the positioning of the rife height valves to redistribute the weight on the front axle which really improved handling.  When I bought my 2004 Intrigue with a Tag axle most of my handling complaints went away which I contributed to adding the tag axle and having the IFS front end.  When I changed from Toyo to Michelin tires any sign of wandering went away after I had the ride height valves readjusted for my cargo.  I have since changed to Continental tires, 315, and though the ride is a little firmer, than with the Michelin 12R.  I still have have a very satisfactory driving experience.

So I would recommend making sure your Koni shocks are adjusted properly, your front end components aren't suffering from worn  or  un-lubricated parts.    I had to have my steering boxed re-braced due to flexing.  Another issue is are your tires under inflated, that can cause problems.  I would visit a good front end shop and have alignment checked both front and rear.  And I would weigh the coach and make sure you have adequate weight on the front end.  Then and only then would I consider adding something to the steering system.  TWI 2004 Intrigue 11731

We changed from Toyo tires to B F Goodrich ST230's and that made the ride much better.
We inflate tires to: Front 105 and Rear 115psi.

We also have to have the toe-in adjusted every year or two and the right front is always off.

We also had new shocks and bushings installed and the ride height adjusted at the factory.

It still wanders a bit but is much better.

O4 and o3 Allures and intrigues had issues with the IFS.  Some of the webbing on the front end components was to thin and under size.  At the 04 Home coming CC  had the front end people come up with a fix which was installed on all coaches at the rally and all coaches as matter of course at the factory repair facilities.  They even had Guaranty and the Shop of Airport Road installing  boxes,  U-bolts, and replacing or adjusting ride height valves.  I always noticed a little whine at 65mph with my driver side window cracked. After the ride height adjustment the noise went away and has never returned.  I assume it had to do with the universal joints being at the wrong angle.  TWI 2004 Intrigue 11731
