Musty smell

We have a musty smell in the cabinets in our slide-out. It seems like water is getting in under the slide-out cover. How can we fix this problem in our 2008 Inspire?

Make sure your slide room is sealed good especially the top!  We always get moisture on top of our slide even with the slide topper awning.

We had the musty smell and didn't do something about it soon enough.  Do not put it off!!  Ended up having to remove the inside wall, take care of the mold and mildew,  new wallpaper, of course.  We had the Fountain RV in Lakeland, Florida replace all of the slide toppers because they were getting worn.  Al, the tech at Fountain, did an excellent job of removing the old sealant and resealing the slide.  Now whenever it rains I squeegee the water off the slides and dry it with a towel.  I use a telescoping pole to reach back into the slide.  Now every year I have a list of stuff that needs done and stop at Fountain on my way to Florida for the winter.  I have them check the top of the slides to make sure they are sealed.  I don't want to go through that again.  To answer your question, you have to take the slide topper awning loose to reseal the top of the slide. Maybe someone could use a mirror on a pole or something to inspect them.  If you are getting a musty smell I'll bet your slide needs resealing.

We just had our BR slide roof sealed at Fountain last week. I really liked AJ and I would feel comfortable having him do anything on my coach. He sealed with Sikaflex caulk. That should last many years and not require any attention. We have undergone three heavy down pours since and no leaks.

We have the musty smell too I think from water getting into the carpet. I think the only answer will be to replace the carpet, but I think we will need to treat the affected area on the subfloor with something. Anyone have any ideas on what to use? Kilz comes to mind, but there may be something better.
