2004 Allure Specifications

Hello, I am new to the group and I am in the process of purchasing a 2004 CC. I would buy the 2004 Magna at the drop of a hat but my budget limits me to the 2004 Allure, a fine coach.
I am concerned about the engine specs of the Allure considering its' weight:

40' tag axle chassis: GVWR ? 44,800 lbs.; GCWR ? 51,800 lbs.
Engine: Cummins® 8.9L ISL 370HP with 1200 lb/ft torque at 1300 rpm

In comparing these specs to the Magna:

40' chassis: GVWR ? 46,500 lbs.; GCWR ? 53,500 lbs.
Cat: C-15 515hp with 1650 lb/ft torque at 1200 rpm

The Allure's 370 HP engine seems undersized for this coach.

Any opinions to the contary or info in general would be appreciate.

Welcome, Ben to the CC family. I own a 2003 Allure 40/tag and find the 370 ISL to be more than adequate. I previouisly owned coaches with 325 and 350hp Cummins ISC engines and can tell you the increased torque of the 370 ISL is impressive ( max torque of the 370hp is identical to the 400hp). No offense to Magna owners, but I could not find enough difference in the coaches to justify the huge difference in price. I previously owned two Intrigues, a '97 and a 2000, and this Allure is, hands down, superior in almost all respects.

Hi, Ben

I have an 03 Allure 40' w/tag, tow car and the 370hp engine. I find it performs more than adequately, with the caveat that on some long hills you may be down to 35 or 40 mph by the time you get to the top. A few that come to mind are: I-40 westbound into Asheville, I- 75 at one point in Tenn, I-17 south out of Verde Valley or north out of Black Canyon City, or north from Verde Valley toward Flagstaff.
Those are long, long, long hills.

Having said that, we do a lot of cruising across New Mexico and Arizona on I-40, and it will move you along as fast as you could want.

Ben, I recently purchased a 2004 Intrigue, Ovation 42'. I to drive that section of I-17 and find the problem to be syncronizing with the traffic not the limits of the ISL. Some folks install C-12's Cat in this unit. I find however, that it out preforms my 98 Allure with ISC 330 and it was 36' long. I pull a Saturn wagon. I weigh out at 43,500 lbs with tow car. We have a 2003 Allure Newport with the 370 ISL and I believe you will be delighted with its performance. We are.

Ben,

It depends how fast you want to go up the hill. We have a 2001 Magna, 40 foot with 2 slides and a tag. Using a 385 Cat C10 and a 4000 Allison. Our weight is about the same as the coach in your note and our engine is a little stronger but not much and we cruise and climb hills very well. Everything today is about speed and bigger engines but that depends on what you want. We have slowed down our driving to between 60 and 65 and the engine we have does a fine job. We get good milage and run cooler at the lower speed and we feel much safer.

Ben: I can understand the Allure VS Magna thing...lol Its a real bite out = of the old pocketbook for sure.

As far as engine size goes...if it were me..I too would "prefer" the 400 HP= motor...BUT!..*S* It aint gonna happen. My advice? Buy it with the 370...drive it a few years...and if you want, go back to Cummins a= nd have it jacked up to 400HP. Its no biggie to have done...but after a few years you may not even want it.
I wished I could have gotten a 370 in my Allure...200 model; 36 ft, single = slide. But learning how to "drive it" is equally important. I run about 1400-1500 RPM on the interstate and when I come to a BAD climb I = just downshift and bring her up to 2100-2200 RPM and go right on. Never have had a problem.

Buy it and enjoy it.
