Hello All! I hope that the members of this group are able to provide wisdom once again:

1998 Country Coach Intrigue
Cummins 6CTA 6CYL turbo

ENGINE CRANKS BUT WON'T START

Cranks well, fails to start

Ran well yesterday, stopped engine normally. Then we went to start again to put out slide and level it started then died as if it wasn't getting fuel.

Failed each restart attempt.

Started up next morning, died off as if it didn't have fuel, then wouldn't start a second time.
 Fuel shut off solenoid was replaced in 2007. The fuel shut off solenoid does move when trying to start engine.

No leaks, no idea what might be causing it.
Fueled up yesterday from high volume fuel source.
Went through mountains yesterday during EXTREME rain storm.
 We are OK where we are at MIL's driveway. No need for emergency living help.

Any suggestions as to cause or solution? Any referrals to GREAT repair facility in Medford Oregon?

We just pumped the fuel primer button a couple of times, engine caught and ran smoothly for about 10 seconds and then died sounding like it was starving out.

We had a new fuel FILTER installed two months ago. We have driven over 1000 miles since then. When we fuel up we go to high volume dealers, so as to avoid bad fuel problems. We just fueled up yesterday at a Flying J truck stop that seemed pretty busy.

Lets try this way....If you have it taken (towed) to a service center or you find a tech that's willing to come to you I'll bet you a dozen donuts first thing....they will change the fuel filters  !

most of the bad fuel we have gotten has been at Flying J. Seems like after a hard rain with flooding?? We carry extra filters for that reason.

Check the coolant level, there is a switch in the coolant tank and if the coolant is low it will act like this.  Don't just trust the sight glass, take the cap off and check. Ask me how I know!

I had a similar problem a few months ago with my 600 Cummins. Moved the RV to a different location at storage, maybe 100 yards. Went back in a few days to move it again, would not start, cranked fine just would not start. Suspected the filters since I had been putting some algaecide in the tank. Changed both filters still wouldn't start. Called a local Cummin's engine expert to take a look. He hooked up his laptop to the engine and saw I had no/low fuel pressure with the key on (lift pump runs with the key turned on) plus he said the lift pump sounded strange, never seemed to get up to pressure. He actually started the engine with some starting fluid and it would run fine once it was running and the primary fuel pump was primed. But let it sit for a couple of days and no start again. He bought a new lift pump and installed it and started right up. And the new pump sounds very different with the key on. My engine is different than yours but it could be a similar problem.

Our 99 intrigue did the same thing before we bought it. Cranked great wouldn't fire.
We put our down payment on it at the dealer, and they took it to Cummins at first they said it was a bad wiring harness, and then after having it for a week realized the injector pump was bad. I wouldn't throw a bunch of parts or guesses at it I would just take it to a trained professional

A few years back we were all having to replace O-rings on our lift pumps because of the new ultra low sulphur diesel.  Then the o-rings were no longer available and the entire pump needed to be replaced.  I surmise because of the lower sulphur content other parts in the lift pump were failing, too.  But as most 600 engines were made after the fuel change or during the fuel change it should not be an issue.  At least we are not loosing injection pumps like we did in the 90's when  When president Clinton change the fuel standards the first time.  The issues were much more severe  that time .  Ford replaced the injection pump on my 7.3 liter pick-up under warranty before the deluge of failures started.  TWI 2004 Intrigue 11731  ISL 400.

I had fuel injection problems under warranty with my 1998 ISC 330.  Under Cummins direction they replace different parts of the pumps involving taking out the pump 3 times.  Finally they replaced the entire assembly.  There was an update program that had not been performed at the time by my local shop part of Rocky Mountain Cummins group.  So for the 4th try they replaced the entire assembly.  At the time 2002, the coach had been in the shop 3 times in 4 weeks.  So Cummins paid the towing and the total bill was close to $6000 as I remember.  If they had just replaced the pump to start with as the Albuquerque shop wanted, the bill would have only been about half that amount.  TWI 2004 Intrigue 11731

Even though fuel solenoid moves, it may not move enough or stay moved.

Wire the throttle position into the maximum height and try starting.

That will either confirm whether the solenoid is working.

I believe the solenoid has two magnets.  One for start position and one for run position.  If one fails the engine will not run.

The point is the coach sat for an extended period and he has  not driven far enough yet to flush the tank completely. Just enough fue3l in and  used to stir up any algae or other debris to plug up the filter. Once you get to  the point of plugging the filter it may take a couple full tanks of fuel and  replacement filters before all is back to normal.

It may be an air leak in the fuel system before the lift pump. It may be  plugged fuel filters, or the lift pump is not lifting (working)

That does not matter if you have algae or other fuel contamination. A 1000  miles in a year says the fuel has not turned over much. Could be algae.

I have seen fuel filters plug in 50 miles.

The lift pump is the pump that provides the fuel to the injection pump or  system via low pressure, 30 to 60 lbs., depending on the system.

If it fails the engine will not run.

The small amount of use indicates algae. change the fuel filters.
