Questions on adjusting ride height

Yahoo Message Number: 101093
We have a 2000 Intrigue and have had problems with the ride height for quite awhile and hopefully the group can help us out.

When we first got the coach I realized that the rear end was low so I thought we had a problem with the HWH leveling system. After talking with HWH and taking out the 7.5 amp fuse I was able to manually adjust the ride height and HWH said that proved it was not a problem on their end. The previous owner said he had replaced the passenger side rear ride height valve so I replaced the drivers side today.

I thought if I raised the coach real high (above ride height) that when I turned on the key and went into travel mode it would let air out until it reached the setting on the ride height. The passenger sides goes all the way down to no air in the bag, drivers side goes down quite a bit but not all the way down. I adjusted the arms up and there was no change in what happens. I now I have both valves in the rear adjusted to the very top of the rod and it acts just like before.

Am I trying to adjust the valves correctly?

I have read that you should do this with the engine running and at 1000 RPM but logic is telling me that is for raising the level but if I start above the level and go to travel mode it should just release air until it gets to the setting.

Looking for any type of comments and ideas on this. I do have another new valve that I might replace the passenger side with but I would have expected the new valve on the drivers side to work so not sure if it is a valve problem or not.

Another question when you say want number your coach is on you signature line is it the last digits on the VIN or the actual CC s/n?

Thanks

Bob,

2 possibilities.

1 = On the collar where the arm is connected to the valve there is a small bump on the outside of the collar. This bump needs to be positioned correctly when you installed the arm or the valve will not work. If you have the instructions that came with the valve it should cover this. It's a little difficult to figure it out so take your time.

2 = Any possibility the air lines connected to the valve got reversed when you installed the new valve?

Your last question, it's the CC s/n.

Could be the 6 way valve or a leak in that air bag system. Can you raise  the coach with the HWH system ?

Mikee,

Yes I can raise, lower and auto level just fine with the HWH controller, with the 7.5 amp fuse removed I can manually set ride height and it stays just fine so HWH was saying that means it is not on their end.

thanks and keep the thoughts coming!

First of all thanks to everyone who replied and supplied information on this.

Second of all my apologies to the group since I did a dumb thing on this, that was the previous owner had replaced one of the valves so I assumed that one was good. Turns out that valve was not good and with the one side dropping all the way down the other side was always going to be low also. After replacing the valve it works fine now. I did another goof and broke one of the sliding rubber adjustment "t" on the arms so I will pick a new one up on Monday.

Other then that things are good again!

Thanks for all the support!

Either the 6 way valve is stuck or the ride height valve has an issue.  Failed, installed upside down, etc.

The ride height valves must be installed in the correct orientation.  I had a rear valve installed by Cat in Jax. They installed it incorrectly such that that rear side wanted to continue to raise after it was at the top of air bag.  I re-installed correctly and it now works properly.

good luck.

Adjusting Ride Height

I have a 2007 Allure 470 and recently broke a sway bar bracket which then  broke the ride height valve. Both have been replaced but now I need to adjust  the ride height. I need details to include what the position of the HWH  controls while making the adjustment. I have the coach on 2x12 blocks and  the front is currently full down.

Thanks,

I have same coach and have the ride height specs.

For your Holland/Newly IFS, your spec is 17 3/4 inches measured center-to-center of the upper and lower shock mounting bolts. Spec calls for +/- 1/16 inch side-to-side.

FYI, your rear spec is 12 1/2 inches measured from the bottom of the frame rail to the bottom of the air bag piston.
