Over The Road AC - 3 registers not blowing air

Yahoo Message Number: 101304
We picked out coach up from work to the cabinets, stereo HiFi gear, and front of coach day/night roller shades. Got it back a few days late, packed the next day, and headed out for a 4-5 month trip.

When we hit the valley floor heading 99 between Bakersfield towards Fresno, we hit 108 outside. Had been running with the OTR AC (This is in our 04 Allure, and this is a front dash AC only, no rear zone 2 OTR AC as in some  of the higher end CC's.), I was doing quite well comfort wise, and was sitting in the sun coming in from the West. DW was saying she was still pretty warm, and was concerned about our puppy that sits in a small throne between the two chairs as we travel.) I suggested she turn her AC Fan control up to high, she did, and that is when she noted that only the top right passenger vent was blowing any air. The vent on the lower right, and in the middle upper and lower, were not blowing any air.

The shop was under the dash for a few reasons, and also pulled wire to the passenger side overhead motorized driving sun visor, for a new switch mounted next to the passenger seat. (We removed the Driver sun visor, as part of a TV Cabinet makeover. And repurposed the two driver side control fans to these motorized visors, to controlling the motors in the day/night roller shades.) So, I thought perhaps the tech may have blown a fuse.

So under the drivers seat lower cabinet, I got my cheater glasses on and found three fuse that mentioned dash A/C. Checked them all, all seem to be good. I do not have my schematics (I emptied the coach for when the cabinets were being worked on. And one of the boxes with the wiring schematics is sitting in the garage at home:)!), and was wondering if anyone know if the 04 Allure era coaches had inline fuses along the way too? Repeating some here, but: All drivers side vents work, and blow air via the fan. Only the top right passenger side vent works, blowing air via the fan, separately controlled by the passenger side fan control. Lower right passenger side vent, and the lower/upper fan in the middle of the dash, just to the right of windshield split, so consider them Passenger side, and the fan control from that side supported these too, have not air blowing via the fans.

I did open the generator door, and confirmed that the AC Hoses are still attached to the plenum.

Thought I'd ask here if anyone had any other ideas for me to check out. In the meantime, I'm going to pull the passenger side temperature control and fan switch panel up, and confirm the tech has not possibly not knocked loose one of the leads while putting int he new switch for the overhead passenger visor. But wanted to have other ideas of what to check next if that all looks good.

Best to all, and TIA,

Smitty

I did carve out 20 mins to do some looking at the passenger side switch control. On ours, the switch is screwed to the bottom side of the wood box that houses the passenger side AC control on the top, and the salesman switch and stair cover switch is on the front side of this wooden box. The place that just helped me install the front day/nigh shade, added a switch to control the passenger side motorized sun visor. They put this on the front top side of the same wood box cabinet. So the new switch, is between the AC Switch and the salesman/stair switch is about two inches below.

I did not remove the box, as the DW has me on a schedule:)! But by pulling gout the newly installed sun visor switch, an shining a light into the area and gently probing around with a plastic pen, I could see in to where the bottom of the AC Switches wires. I saw nothing that looked to be unhooked, from this angle. I did note in my field of vision, some wire nuts on two wires.

Reminder that the AC Switch when activating the fan from low to high, does still get the single over to the top right vent. As the bottom far right passenger vent, and then the top/bottom middle set of vents, are not now working - I'm wondering if when the shop removed the wood box to wire in the sun visor control switch, if they might have knocked loose a wire nut(s) that send the signal too those vents? At out next stop, I should be able to negotiate with the DW the time to remove that box cabinet and take a good look inside. But, don't want to do this if only one wire feeds out from the switch to the fan controls of the passenger side vents.

If it is only one, then I suspect it will be time to crawl around and look inside of the dash area for loose connections.

(Sorry this is so wordy, but trying the best I can to explain what I can see, and hoping someone may have a good understanding on how the passenger vents and passenger AC/Fan switch interact.)

Best to all,

Smitty,

Have you checked to see if they didn't knock off the vent hoses, either at the back of the vents or at the main plenum?

Thanks Steve - All hoses seem to be properly attached from what I can see... I found more fused on a contraption behind the dash, accessible by removing the small passenger side dash cabinet. All of those checked out good too.

Had to fall off to this for awhile, but later this week I'll crawl around more underneath from the drivers side, and see if I missed anything.

The placed that did the work for me on other things, said to bring it by on our way back thru that part of the country - and they'd look it over for us. (Both the owner, and the tech he checked with, could not think of anything they did that would have caused a 'partial' failure. So, we'll have to do more testing to see what I've missed:)!)

Best,

Smitty,

This is a shot in the dark... but I lost most power in my coach one day, trying to fix a bad switch. the fuse they found bad was at the breaker panel inside the coach.  it was a 5 amp fuse that kinda control most everything.  You have to unbolt the breaker panel from where it's mounted and lean it out. the fuse and connection was attached to a small wooden shelf at the top, behind the breaker panel. .
We suffered for 2 days in 90 degree without air.  Just letting you know,
