Back up camber

Yahoo Message Number: 101497
Hello, we have a 2000 magna and the back up camber has failed. We want a color one with a larger screen. Has anyone with this year rv replace the unit, and with what type. Thanks Charles 2000 magna 5886

Had mine replaced last October at Fountain RV in Lakeland, FL. It is a Perimeter View 20-CM-32AH. I had previously replaced the VA707 radio/display in the dash with a Panasonic AVH-6500DVD unit. The camera connects directly to the dash radio.
On my Magna, there is a mirror over the bed and below the overhead cabinet with the over the road A/C fan. The mirror had to be removed and a hole cut in the wall panel behind the mirror to gain access to the camera. The old camera was removed and the new one installed and held into place with caulking (I believe it was white polyurethane caulk). While I didn't watch the whole process, it appeared to me to be quite tedious. The hole on the rear of the coach had to be enlarged slightly to allow the new camera to tilt down as far as I wanted it to be.
The camera wires were spliced into the old wires running to the front of the coach. There is a small video control box under the dash, centered and near the front of the coach at floor level. This is where the wires from the rear camera come into the dash area. The wire from the rear was spliced to a connector that plugs into the rear of the dash radio. If you replace the radio and the camera you can remove about 20 pounds of wire and extra parts for the old radio that will no longer be needed.
I get a very good image with the new camera, but the field of view is not quite as wide-angle as the old camera. Total cost for the camera and labor was about $480.
