Backup Camera Replacement

Has anyone replaced the old B/W camera and monitor with the new color unit that currently installs? If so, how difficult, how costly and can the same wiring be used?

Gene: I replaced my B/W with a color last year. I found a complete unit on E-bay for $375.00. There is a world of difference in the effeciency of the color unit. The wiring harness can be adapted at both ends with a little "rigging". The only problem is mounting the monitor. There is no standardization of size in the monitors. The advantage is that the new color unit will no doubt be LCD screen with a much smaller unit to work with. The old B/W has a tube and takes up a lot of space.
I made a new bezel out of acrylic because it is easy to cut and glue.
One other thing. The technology is progressing rapidly on everything, including these units. Mine has an infra-red camera that really brings things into view at night. I like to have the camera aimed up a little higher so I can see beyond the tow car. It makes it nice for lane changing and passing slower moving vehicles.

Larry,

Any chance that you got audio with the new unit. CC doesn't believe in it, but after testing a Monaco that needed to be backed into a tight garage, I do. Would like to add it.

Doug: No, mine didn't include the audio. It looks like it would be a nice feature but I wonder how much you could hear with the diesel engine running? Might be a bit better for a gas rig I suppose. Who knows, with as much tinkering as I do I might find I can't live without audio. Shhhhh don't tell the wife.

Our 96 has audio but you can't hear anything over the noise of the engine.
