Danfoss fan Controller

Yahoo Message Number: 101933
When returning home our fan came on high for about 10 miles then went back to normal operation until we got home. After we unhooked the toad and I restarted the coach the fan came on high again for a few minutes, this is not normal and I was wondering if the group might have any suggestions as to what the cause maybe and what a solution might be?

Hi Ken,

Mine started doing the exact same thing a couple of weeks ago. I've tested everything I could think of that might cause the problem such as bad grounds, blown fuse, lose of voltage, etc. Everything is as it should be so it appears the controller is going bad, which is not at all unusual. Have an appointment to have it replaced next week.

Just a note. Having the dash AC operating will cause the fan to operate when otherwise it wouldn't so make sure the dash air is off. If you still have the problem it's time to check the plug at the controller for any problems, corrosion or pitting. If everything looks good there it looks like it might be time for a new controller. Again, it's not unusual for these to fail.

If your controller is mounted with the wires pointing up it has probably  gotten water in it thru where the wires go into the potting. If you get it  replaced have it mounted with the wires pointing down.

The connector on mine failed a couple of years ago.  I cut it out, trashed it, and used butt connectors on the wires. Worked fine ever since.

Who needs that plug anyway?

Have you changed the 3 Nelson filters p/n 84220 that is part of the fan and steering system, just thinking.

Engine compartment?, right side.  A container about 1 foot diameter and a couple of feet tall.

It looks like this one but different, different filter and different o-ring but you service it the same way.
Mine takes Dexron III

Took my coach to get serviced because dash AC not working.
They found 2 things.
1. Too high of pressure  on the high pressure side of AC. Noticed immediately as AC turned on.
2. Fan did not kick into high with AC kicked on.

Service personnel felt high pressure in AC is related to fan not going to high.
Have not repaired anything yet.

I am a little skeptical that a fan stuck on low speed would cause the AC pressure to spike right away.
I am thinking more of an obstruction in the tubing.

Any thoughts?

The air flow over the condenser is critical. It has to have good air flow.  The fan could very well be the issue.

Because you said immediately I would question it but if it runs for a few minutes then goes high I would think it viable.

Postively, definetly not the fan. AC will run several minutes before pressure rises enough for trinary switch to activate relay to fan controller. Mine only runs on slow, although others could be programmed to switch to high. An easy test is to pull fuse to fan controller which  forces it to high. You need to find another A/C mechanic.
