Location of SauerDanfos Fan Controller

Yahoo Message Number: 102024
Could someone tell me where the Sauer Danfos fan controller is located on a 2004 Intrigue?

Thanks in advance
Bill

Bill,

Look at the lowest back corner of the radiator.  Find a connector with six wires and follow that to a square box about 2x4x4.  That is it.

I changed mine out on a 2004 Allure. The bolts are inside the fan shroud. Instead of removing all the hardware involved we cut a rectangle big enough to get a hand and wrench in to remove the bolts. We then made a cover plate and attached with 4 screws. Just a thought

I am not certain who wrote the message re:cleaning contacts on the Sauer Danfoss controller, but I was getting erratic temp readings in hot (90+) humid driving conditions.  Not any load I.e., no hills of any consequence.  63 mph, and crazy coolant temps. Appeared not speed related or load related. Not overheating, just erratic.  Coolant 186-201; oil temp 195-213.  Thought maybe a sensor was failing, thermostat going bad, radiator plugged with dirt-debris, who knows?

New radiator cap (Thought maybe not getting pressure); no help.
Took fan wiring harness, unplugged both two wire and multiple wire connector, cleaned with contact cleaner, reassembled and early test results indicate BINGO!  Temp steady as a rock 186-190 local test.

Acid test when we hit the road on Saturday.
Bottom line..... do as whoever wrote the note about cleaning the connections FIRST.  A 10 minute job!!!  We'll see if it is an aberration on Saturday!

I too think I have had luck with cleaning the harness connectors to the controller. May have posted about here too, or on IRV2, can't recall. We've never had a problem with temps based upon Silverleaf and gauge needle temp readings. Usually run 185-190, and in extreme heat and hard hill climbs (we just die I70 East into Denver), I'll se a Silverleaf reading of 201-203 at the peak.

I'm going to add the cleaning of this harness, or our annual maintenance punchiest. I also used a Q Tip with dielectric grease, before hooking things back up.

If I ever confirm the controller is out, I'm leaning towards changing over to the KISS Source Engineering approach to running the fan. A one time repair, not quite a sophisticated as the multiple sources of fan controls of the OEM - but would rather have consistency for the long haul.

Best to all,

Smitty

Smitty, from the temps you are reporting, I would guess your fan is locked  on high. Our engines are designed to run more around upper 190's to 200 F under  load.
