Don't know if anyone has seen the attached in the Country Coach Friends Newsletter:
 http://www.countrycoachfriendsincorporated.com/editor_upload/File/Newsletter/CCFI%20September%20Newsletter%202015-3.pdf

Basically, any of us with a Moto Sat dish that still works (mine works fine) is screwed.  As are a number of others.  Dish apparently changed something in the way the satellites are communicated with and the Moto Sat controller will no longer be able to pick them up.  Dish made the move, but it also affects DirecTV subscribers.  Cal Thorn told me on the phone that Dish could care less, since about .001% of their business is mobile.
The RF Mogul upgrade kit for the MotoSat dish is $1,300 and a new RF Mogul dish is $2,200!  Neat, huh?

Yes, I also found out about this. Looking at a Winegard solution. Also, thinking about chucking the whole thing and going to a over the air solution. I will post my pain as I go.

PLAN B. Get a Satellite Oasis Directv HD Satellite Dish RV Tripod Kit. Amazon has it for $145 w/free shipping. Go to: Amazon.com: Satellite Oasis Directv Hd Satellite Dish Rv Tripod Kit: Electronics

Some may need the Satellite Oasis model DTVSWMSKIT model instead,

I went with the RF Mogul last year and it has performed well. I did not go with the Winegard because I was told that it would have to be returned to the factory for any repairs.

I would research RF Mogul.  New development is that Mogul software/hardware (not sure which) is crashing.  The company is offering the fix at a cost of $1200, which my friends have been told is at company cost.  Sounds a little like MotoSat all over again--at least there seems to be a fix.

I have researched the issue: A Satellite was removed and the Moto Sat can't find it and winds up peaking to nothing. Thats a very short answer. Number of issues with RF Mogul, Royal Lamb has left and he seemed to know what was going on. Will need to find someone willing to install the RF mogul upgrade. Seems like everyone does Winegard and it has been said here, you have to send parts back to factory to be fixed.
Yesterday, I researched HD TV Antennas and DVR's for them and I think it can be done. If I suspend DirectTV for 6 months I would save $800 less the programs I would have to pay for on Apple TV.

If you need assistance with RV satellite stuff and are anywhere near Houston TX, you should call Dave at Sats2Go  He has worked on our TracStar SV360 3 times and all 3 times fixed it and added DirecTV to our bedroom for a fraction of the cost that LazyDays in Tampa wanted. He is the RV satellite "guru" in our opinion and if he can't fix it or install it, nobody can.

We still have the old analog TV in our bedroom and get over air channels via a converter box using our original omni direction antenna that came on the coach. We did research for a  better antenna for over air channels and found that the King Digital HDTV Antenna got the best reviews.  We decided we would live with what we have.

This is not RF Mogul/Motosat's doing. Satellites used by Direct and DTV changed their identifier frequency and the old systems cannot deal with the change. The newer Eagle versions will have no problem picking up the satellite.

Switched to Eagle 2 and all is well with DTV!

Crazy timing. I just bought a used motosat unit last week for parts. My current motosat worked today but its a SD2 controller. The one I bought was a 2/3 which I think is obsolete based on this news so is likely headed for the recycle bin. I would have thought more people would have been effected.

My Moto Sat went out in May and I replaced it with the new (small) Dome King. Can be mounted on the roof but I elected to use it portable. Works great and only cost $499. Plugs into the cable outlet.

When 'o when is ANY satellite TV for coaches going to be anything other than a screw job!  Can't say enough bad about the entire industry, at least as far as it relates to mobile usage!
I'm going to wait until next Spring to take stock of the situation before I either upgrade my Moto Sat or invest in an RF Mogul.  Neither situation is appealing at all!  But, then, does anyone think any of them give a rat's a... about what we think?

For my take on this question, I have to say that in far more places than not we have been able to get adequate service "over the air" with our modren antenna, and even in some parks with cable, I have found the over the air service to be better.  For instance, I have found that many park cable providers carry Fox but not PBS.  Quite often in those locations, we are able to get PBS over the air.  I prefer choice, not chance.

As of today, Sept 15, my Nomad 2 and MotoSat dish still work on DirecTV. I'll be using it daily for the next 2 weeks and will report and change.

That has also been my understanding. RF Mogul repairs Motosat systems. One of originators of RFMogul was a Motosat engineer before some kind of falling out.

Im a little confused. It sounds like dish made some changes making the early versions of the motosat obsolete but the newer controllers are still working so they must use some other transponder for there aiming. Is there reason to think they may make another change causing a problem for the Nomad sd2 controllers? Rod

Rod, I don't know about the others but I'm a DirecTV Customer.

The other variable is the software update version in each receiver. For a period, regular software updates were issued. I have the latest (40.3 I believe). That could be a factor.

In any case I'm good for now, whatever that means time-wise?

Should not be confused, it's the boxes RFM1000 and the RFM1100. It's a Korean Software issue, the satellite was removed from being used. The RfMogul boxes do no know this and keep on trying, till its peaks on nothing. This happened on 8/21/2015.

Im on direct TV and it worked fine  on the last outing. Is this just a dish network thing or are there some direct tv costumers that have been effected.

I was wondering the same thing!! I pay Direct for another receiver(6.95) and my service has been good so far. I have also used one of the receivers from our home and it worked as well. There are two problems, which are really not problems. After about 400 miles from home, we lose our local channels and if the receiver in the RV remains dormant for a month or two, we have to call Directs automated system and do a reset. In case we happen to get in a place where there is no cell service, we always reset ours before we leave home. We don't have anything fancy on ours, just a manual rooftop Weingard dish.

Local channels are spot beamed and you will lose them when you leave the  spot beam area.
Yes, the receivers become deactivated if they do not talk to Direct for a  period of time. The easiest way is to call direct TV and tell the automated  attendant "721" that will cause Direct to reactivate all receivers on the  account. Just be sure the received and sat system are operating when you do  this.
