entry steps won't extend

Yahoo Message Number: 103504
On my maiden voyage and have resolved numerous issues with the good advice that I have read on this forum.  So now I hope for more such advice.    My entry steps do not extend. They had been out for a number of days since we are parked in an RV park and I had set the step switch by the door to keep the steps extended  I accidently hit the house battery switch by the door and the steps retracting as if we were getting ready to move.  When i flipped the battery switch back on, the steps stayed retracted.  I looked for a fuse in the electronics bay by the driver but didn't see one for the steps.  Thoughts, suggestions?  Thanks for your help in advance.

This might work, but of course I'm not sure.  Start your engine which may reset the step switch, and then try opening and closing the door again.  Hope it works.

just to temporarily close the loop on this one.  Before I had a chance to try any suggestions, the steps suddenly extended on their own (!@$#@).  The door was open and I was building a substitute set of steps when the steps extended.  Just when I thought I was starting to understand this thing called a motorhome....

Stu. You might try moving the cable between the door and the frame  the wire strands In the cable are known to break, mine did and I had to replace the cable with a more Suitable type.  The failing cable acts just as you described  Kevin Waite has replacements 541  953 6162  Bob 06 intrigue. 12047

Stu.

I had a similar problem on my Allure 42' 2006 In my case the wire at the step motor wasn't locked together correctly and not making good contact.  The motor is located just under the steps. There is a 2'x2' steel plate with 4 to 6 bolts. Hope that helps.

I turned my step switch back on and closed and opened the door and they came back out. Then turned them off again to leave them out...

I sense some confusion on how the step switch works.  On my previous 06 and current 08 the steps are powered by the starting battery. If that switch is off the steps will not move. To keep the steps extended while parked the house battery switch must be on and the steps switch must also be on. If you turn on the ignition the steps will retract if the door is closed.  There is a common problem with the wiring loom that goes into the door, but hopefully it is just knowing which switches must be on
