Always prudent to replace hoses and belts based on usually age, vs ware. Visual yearly inspections can help, especially on belts, but usually hoses are an age replacement item.
And, yeah 10 years seems to me to be a good timeframe. We replaced our hoses, engine and generator, at the 10 year mark. And, if not buying OEM Cummins/CAT/Detroit hoses, do at least get the best quality hoses you can purchase. I usually like Gates when it comes to hoses and belts, and they too, sometimes have different grades of quality.
IMO, it is always preferable to do a preventative strike on this kind of maintenance. Vs waiting for something to happen on the road. You can use your people, buy the parts from wherever you like, and do it on your schedule.
And yes to the washing machine hoses maintenance too. As with our sticks and bricks, we change over our washing machine, and toilet hoses, on 5 year schedule if rubber, and 7 years if stainless steel braided. (And note, SS Braided, still has a 'hose' inside of it!). We also do a yearly on/off of al the 1/4 shut off valves, to keep them from becoming frozen. If they don't work, I add that to a my maintenance list and replace them. And, same thing on quality. I avoid the junk that the larger hardware stores now carry. I do not consider a 'contractor grade group purchase of 10 valves' to be a 'good deal'. They're usually junk. So instead of say $2.50 a valve, I'll bay $7.50+ a valve - it is a good investment in the long run.
Best to all,
