8v92 oil temperature

I have a 1985 Prevost with an 8V92 engine. I am running a steady 185 deg F water temperature but my engine oil temperature climbs to 230-235 deg F when cruising at 70-75 mph. Does anyone know what is normal for the 8V92 or what is considered to be a max oil temp?

I have an 8V92TA and my temps sometimes reach that high when traveling in stop and go traffic. It helps to put the tranny in N when stopping at traffic lights.  The temp always goes down to between 205 and 210 when traveling at speed, and under 200 when using the OTR A/C. I smell the oil dipstick from time to time and never smell a burnt smell so feel that everything is Ok, plus it does not use oil.  Barrie Boas 94 Concept 5111

I was originally under the impression that I was looking at my engine oil gauge because the gauge face reads "oil temp" but I am not sure if that means transition oil or engine oil after reading some of the comments.

I have now heard people say that the older mechanical (non DDEC) 8V92 rigs only monitored engine water temp (not engine oil temp) and that the "oil temp" gauge is actually reading transition fluid temperature.

So if anyone has feedback on what the "oil temp" gauge on the dash of a 1985 may be reading ( engine or transition ) that would be great.

Maybe 70-75 is too fast and the oil is complaining.:-(  I know that Arizona doesn't mind such excessive speeds, but please don't do that in California.  By way of reminder, in California the speed limit while towing is 55mph, and if not towing then the posted speed limit  is usually 65mph, rarely 70mph and, so far as I know, never 75mph.  Also, if towing, drivers are legally restricted to the right two lanes.  The CHP usually gives a 5-6 mph cushion against the limits.  And no, I am not a retired CHP officer.:-D

I had an 8V92 in a Wanderlodge I once owned. I remember what the manual stated regarding oil temp. 200-250 was the normal range.
