Coolant leak from hurricane heater/heat exchanger leak supposedly

I posted a couple months ago about my hurricane heater leaking coolant. I had camping world in Katy TX take a look at it, and they said it was leaking from the heat exchanger, and that the part was no longer available but could be welded so I had them bypass it. I'm at a friends shop who builds custom fuel tanks for HotRods and he can weld anything.........anyone have any experience taking one apart? I have the book with the diagram of the unit but it doesn't show having a heat extractor inside the box.......any help would be greatly appreciated

We the webasto in our 2000 Allure # 30476. The heat exchanger in our cracked and leaked also. I was able to find a used on from this site http://rvhydronicheaterrepair.com. He was very helpful and had all the tune up parts etc. There is also another guy in the rv world who has been working on these units for a long time too. http://heatmyrv.com/

You will have to get creative.

I bought an acqua hot cozy 111 heat exchanger which came with radiator and fans. The pleneum (sp??)  for that unit did not match up with the unit under my kitchen sink. Gutted the Heater Craft unit and installed the cozy unit in the box connected to the original pleneum.

My front exchanger is now leaking. The Heater Craft unit was replaced a couple of years ago with a unit from Rixens in Oregon. They also make RV heating units. The fix was pieced together with units from the old and the new. This time I am mating together the old and the new cozy 111. Sheet metal tape can do wonders. All three, Heater Craft, Rixens and Cozy are similar enough that you can make it work. I would not be going for a used unit just like I wouldn't put a used heater core in my car heater.

My last leak occurred when it was 15 degrees and we had leaking hydro hot fluid on the kitchen floor and on a weekend.

There is a heat exchanger inside the box as camping world stated. If you take the top panel off you will see it on the back wall of the unit. This is your domestic water heat exchanger. The other heat exchanger you can see if you take the side cover off and look behind the water pump next to expansion tank. It is used for the engine heat. All the tanks are Connected together by heater hose using antifreeze solution. Having said that, I would suspect a leaking hose rather than a leaking heat exchanger. I have replaced all the hoses on our Hurricane heater but I did pull the unit out of the coach. I did a complete rebuild on mine while I had it out. Not cheap but I am hoping for no more trouble for a while. All the heat exchangers on my unit checked out fine. I saved on labor by doing the work myself. Goggle IR heat.com as they have some pictures of the inside of the unit. Good luck. I have no experience repairing one of these heat exchangers but I am familiar with these units by necessarily.

John, Had a leak in ours 5 years ago. Got up in the morning and found coolant under the unit on the Wal-Mart parking lot. Fresh green coolant!

Removed the green silicone hoses, the fuel lines and the wiring harness . 4 mounting bolts and entire unit came out on our camp table. Easy disassembly using care around the thermostat sensors. Pressure tested the heat exchanger with our portable nitrogen bottle and found no leak!

Turns out the inlet silicone hose was letting coolant past at the clamp (into the unit under the cover). Cut 2 inches off the hose and a new clamp and its working great ever sense.

Only cost us one more night in the Twin Falls Idaho Wal-Mart Parking lot.......Skip 2002 Intrigue #11329.
