Wiper arms/blades, again

Yahoo Message Number: 105087
Oh I wish the search feature was functional on Yahoo User Groups:)! Or, I had saved the message number or a link:)! As I found some good threads on this a few years back...

OK, went to replace our coaches blades again, and thought I'd try the Rain X cartridges this time around. Got the back to the coach, an after a bit of soft persuasion, got them to fit into the grove that holds the cartridge/blade. But even with the arm helpers again re-sprung to provide more tension on the arms, the blades had a good 1 1/2 - 2" gap in the middle, where the blades would not contact the windshield screen.

Now I admit to be a bit slow, buy my thinking is that for the blade to remove the rain from the windshield, the blade should be making contact with he glass at all points:)!

(These come out of the packaging cases with a planned 'curve' arch to them. Suppose they work well for curved windscreens, or with wiper arms that provide enough tension to the glass. And possibly driving at speed will provide more force agains the windshield too. But, during a rain storm is not the time to try this out. I did try un-arching them back to as straight as possible, but the memory of the curve/arch is molded into the plastic cartridge.)

OK a few questions:
1) What length blades are you running on your coaches? These are 26", which was on the coach when we bought it. But suspect 24" would probably serve us well too.)

2) Even with the helper springs providing as much added tension as I can get onto the wiper arms, it is still not a very solid fit against the windscreens. In 45-55 knot rainstorm we were caught in, with only a few miles to go to our destination, the arms would actually at times be caught by a gust and lose partial contact with the windscreen. So I'm trying to recall the arms that two or three other CC owners changed over to, that were reported to provide much better contact with the windscreen.

In my signature, but this is for the 2004 Model Allure, built in Sept of 2003. SN 31017. But from what I can see, it's the same arm and windows that appear to be in the Intrigue of that era too. Not positive about Magna/Affinity, as I've never looked that close at their wiper arms.

Oh, back to the store, shaped out for Bosh Micro Edge Cartridges, basically an exact replacement fit for the cartridges that came with the coach. (And no luck finding any refills at two different stores. Know I can order them from NAPA, but wanted to replace these today.)

TIA for any info sharing, and best to all,

Smitty

Smitty,

I just went through this with my coach. Center of blades not touching windshield and also had peeling of the black powder coating on arms. Ordered new arms from Rome Truck Parts who I recommend.

Replaced arms and the blades still didn't touch as they should. I realized that the blades had a significant built in arc. I bought new blades with little or no built in arc and they work great. Open body blades seem the best for this. I use 26" as they are the maximum recommended for my arms which I think are that same as your arms.

Good luck

I just replaced blades on my coach with 26" Rain X wiper blades. I bought them at Pep Boys and they have a large selection. The Rain X blades can have a built in curve or built without the curve for flat windshields like most motor homes use. They fit and work well.

I recently replaced my 32" blades (I think they were Trico?) with 26" RainX blades I got from Walmart in Benson, AZ. They were a tight fit into the U shaped bracket on my arms and I had to use a smaller stainless bolt. However, they fit flat to the glass. Now we've not run into any rain since installing them a month ago but we are now on the FL panhandle and will be heading north back to Virginia next week so I am sure I will find out how well they work.

Sorry I was mistaken. I looked again and the blades I got at Walmart were Michelin blades, not RainX.

Thanks gang.

I'll have some downtime in April, and will call and talk with he group that George provided the link to. Our arms are, even with the helper springs, are just underwhelming us on providing a clean sweep of the windshield. Especially it seems, right in the sweet spot for line of sight:)! (Sometimes I can get one of the arms/blades to do a pretty good job for a period of time. Bug dang if I can consistently repeat the combo of arm and spring tension to repeat it constantly.)

I'll poke back more in the boards older postings in April, as someone with either an Allure of Intrigue of my era, had found heavier duty replacement arms. As I recall, they had trouble matching the shaft on their first try, and once they called back to arrange return, the parts gent said he had a good arm that would fit that shaft... Just can't recall what the makers name was, or the place he got it, so that I can try to replicate his makeover:)!

Best to all, be safe, have fun,

I researched this some time ago and came up with the following for the 04 Intrigue or Allure.
Wiper parts dot com: 200487N, 31.5 in.
Grainger dot com: Din72 783 or 789 Zoro dot com: G2438992

The magic words are: Dyna wet panograph at all three sites. Just pick you desired length Do your own research carefully and I think you will find what you need at one of these online sites.
