Allied Rates

I had a long talk with Allied today. After looking at some of my bills I discovered the increases were in collision and comprehensive. Roughly a 300% increase in Collision and a 50% increase in comprehensive. They are doing this to all customers who own class A's over 36 feet and no longer taking on any new customers over 36 feet. They claim a massive increase in Collision losses in motorhomes over 36 feet due to drivers lacking the ability to properly drive longer motorhomes. I am curious if anyone else insured with other companies is experiencing such massive increases in collision rates for motorhomes over 36 feet. I can imagine more low-speed collisions with longer motorhomes which are the trickier to maneuver in that regard, but I cannot imagine that only Nationwide drivers have this problem.

We did the renewal with Progressive in Oct. as well. No increase, and original purchase price payout on total loss. $1484 with $0 deductible (for good behavior). I have been very pleased with their roadside assistance in the few cases where needed over the last 12+ years.

Thanks all for your input. Lee this is an across-the-board thing with Allied regardless of location. Well I have not heard from any Allied CC owners but I am concluding this is an a Allied thing.

This thread got my attention... as it happens my own policy with Allied is up for renewal this month, so I checked with my agent. Sure enough my own policy premium is up 20% over last year :-(. But my agent explained that the primary issue is the "Agreed Value" clause which we had chosen previously so that in the event of a total loss, there is no dickering about the amount to be paid based on some illusive "book value." If I would go with "ACV" or Acual Cash Value, my annual premium would be about 11% less. Since my boats are insured with Progressive, I ran a quote with them online and they ONLY offer ACV and the premium quote was 2,590 for about the same ACV coverage Allied quoted me of 1782.... or 45% higher. Sorry Flo, I'll stick with Allied.

Lee, you misunderstood: Allied will not insure a motorhome over 36 feet no matter where you live as a new customer. At least that's what I've been told by two Brokers and Allied . As an existing customer they're going raise you're right about 300% for collision. What's your paying may vary from location to location of course, but the increase should be the same. You have to keep in mind they could simply not renew the policies.

I also have Allied. I am moving to Florida from Pennsylvania and the rate went up about 30%. The coverage limits are the same but Florida requires dual medical coverage because of the large number of people without medical coverage.

While uninsured have decreased in recent years the auto insurance and hospitals have successfully blocked reductions in insurance premiums. Under the status quo, hospitals receive twice the level of payment that Medicare provides and it has to be paid within 30 days.

While Allied no longer insures coaches over 35 ft, they grandfathered me in.

This is my second year with Allied and my rate stayed the same. A little over 1300. We are full timers out of MT and work for AGS doing guest service guides. Corky, 00 Affinity 42'.

My point was that it's fruitless to quote your rate with the intention of allowing us to compare, as rates are so dependent on location. Nevertheless giving a before /after to make the point is helpful.

I just changed to Allied in January of this year. I have a 45 ft Intrigue. Hope they don't deny renewal at the end of the year.
