AC, seems like they are haunted ... LoL

Yahoo Message Number: 106369
Hi all,

I have a 2003 Country coach Allure 40 foot . My Ac's always acted funny, meaning kinda come up and blow hard for a few minutes, then would shot down, and do it again in 5 minutes, Like having problem cycling.. Really does it weird when running 30 amps..
Now my front AC won't work.. It kept blowing the breaker at camp ground..
Anyone know where or how to test contact, and starter on these things.. I am currently in Daytona Florida, would love to find honest AC for RV repair who knows how to fix and not just replace..

I heartily recommend Fountain RV in Lakeland for any repairs on Country Coaches. They have always been excellent with ours.

Repair facilities that are recommended are always a blessing...thanks for that. The problem with many technicians is what I call part changers. Most everything can be checked if the time is taken to use the correct procedures, unfortunately this doesn't always happen. Please let us know what the repair is, my air units are also doing some weird things

one thing you can try is a reset on the thermostat. Here's the directions:
a. Turn the ON/OFF switch to OFF position.

b. Simultaneously depress and hold the MODE and ZONE push-buttons while turning the ON/OFF switch to ON.

FF should appear in the LCD display until the MODE and ZONE push-buttons are released.

the second thing to check are the phone connections to each AC. Unplug and plug back in.

Third thing are the start capacitors.

I second Fountain RV in Lakeland FL. Butch Williams is very familiar with Country Coach.

We also use Alliance Coach in Wildwood FL. They have an RV park in the rear with water and electric hookups where you can stay free if you are having service. Just call ahead and make an appointment. They have a large lounge where you can stay during the day to get out of the heat. The service manager there used to be our service advisor at the Crown Club at Lazydays in Tampa.

Try MaxCarerv.com, 844-629-2273. This is a mobile husband and wife team who are very proffessional IMO. He came out to our coach in Titusville, FL and installed a new LR AC. I think he residesclose to Daytona.

I don't believe you can run 2 ac's on 30 amps. The starting current is too high and will blow the breaker is 1 is running and the second one starts. In our coach 1 ac plus refer draws 17 amps. Not enough power left for a 2nd one.

there is a way to do this. If you turn off your circuit breaker for your inverter /crger you will have enough amperage to Run 2 air conditioners. The inverter will power the refrigerator household plugs off batteries. Hopefully at night you can get by with one air conditioner and turn the inverter charger back on to charge batteries

By the way for those of you who aren't knowledgeable about the 120 240 electrical circuits in your Coach, just remember a 30 amp circuit will only give you 3600 Watts total for all your needs, where a 50 amp circuit will give you 6000 Watts per leg (there are 2 in 50 Amp) which is 12000 Watts total. By the way, All inverters are 30 amp circuits so if you plug in to a 30 amp circuit and run your inverter as a stand alone for your pass thru circuits microwave, refrigerator, and plugs, the max you will get is 7200 watts available using your inverter and shore power 30 amp. If you were going to run two air conditioners in this mode, don't forget to turn off the hot water heater switch if it's electric Aqua Hot. It is on the 30 amp Shore power leg. I modified my coach with a circuit switch to bypass the inverter and run the full 6000 to my plug circuits, microwave, refer when plugged into 50 amp Shore power. I never blow any circuit breakers in my coach now from over demand, and save my inverter for 30 amp parks or a rainy day

So let me see if I got this right.. If I leave the inverter on, It will be 30 amp on one leg, and If I plug in a campground, it will be 30 amp but on another leg? Is that correct? I am going to look at my AC Panel box. If i remember correctly, the AC is only 110 in my coach with a breaker only on one leg.
I know the Air conditioning, will not work with inverter, So I have to see... I will try it though... I will try anything once..

If you have a 50 amp coach then when you plug into 50 amp service or run generator you have to hot feeds of 120 volts of 50 amp each. One feeds each side of your circuit-breaker box, just like your S&B.
When you connect to 30 amp the single 30 amp leg supplied is tied to both hot legs for the coach, inside the cable plug, and supplies power to everything.

The inverter has a bypass switch inside of it that when ac power is applied, from gen or shore, the bypass engages and skips the inverter. The circuit feeding the inverter is 30 mamp and there fore anything supplied by the inverter is limited to 30 amps total.

You are correct your a/c never runs through the inverter.

To simplify things, your coach has two separate circuits, one circuit goes to What's called your pass through circuit which powers refrigerator microwave and plugs, and the other circuit Generaly powers your air conditioners and water heater. If your inverter doesn't see, Power it makes power from your batteries and either way the pass-through circuit powers your microwave refrigerator and plugs. When you plug into a 30 amp circuit it is shared between the two circuits. If you turn off your inverter circuibreaker, all of the 30 amps from the shore power will be available for your air conditioners and hot water heater. Your inverter will then start making power from the batteries (another 30 amps)to power up your refrigerator microwave and plugs because It thinks it's lost power from the shore. Don't be fooled by the power you'le have. It will not be the 12000 Watts you get from the 2 leg 50 amp power, but rather 7200 Watts or 3600 Watts on each leg. This will power you're 2 air conditioners with the hot water heater off, and your inverter will then power your microwave refrigerator and plugs as well. When your second air conditioner can be turned off you should turn back on your inverter charger to charge up your batteries that have been used for the aformentioned.

Pretty cool stuff.. Since you do not mention air-conditioning as part of the pass threw circuit, does that mean the inverter will run Air conditioning? I have never tried it. I just figured to kick the generator on as I figure the Air conditioning was tied into the pass threw circuit.

Just for "Old Stupid", in normal operation, should you keep your inverter turned on? I have a push button on my control panel that says inverter. Pressing that button turns it on & off.
I have never understood why I have the option to easily turn the inverter on or off? Do you turn it off when parked & on shore power & on when driving? Thanks,
D Jean

My Magna has an option where there are 2 inverters with one setup to run the front AC. Without that, it won't run. It's kind of a silly option, I never use it.

Since we have nothing that has to run off the inverter we keep it off most of the time. Charger still runs when plugged in and ac passes through.

If on the other hand we had a residential fridge, for example, we would leave it on all the time.

The inverter uses power when on even if nothing is running.

The a/c never runs through the inverter as it would drain the batteries quickly.

That sounds like someone added it because the battery drain to run the a/c would be huge. Basically an average 4 battery bank would be good for less than an hour.

What model of inverter are you referring to? All I have seen off means it disconnects from the battery input and does NOT generate 120 input. The charger always stays on.

It is on my CC window sticker, about a $6000 option. I know, it's crazy. I will never use it. But it is factory. Kind of nice having two inverters though, share the load. On the other hand, it will suck when I have to replace two!

No the air conditioner is on the shore power circuit not the pass-through circuit

Believe It or Not There are some high-end coaches that have dual air conditioners and large battery Banks and say you can run the air conditioners. They have had lots of problems and it's pretty insane

Sounds like a bad capacitor in your air conditioner but a lot of things need to be checked like voltage coming into the coach as well I would call a good RV air conditioner shop to come out and check it
