Dallas to Las Vegas

We are taking our granddaughter to Las Vegas for a national dance competition next week. The last time we traveled between Dallas and Las Vegas (6-8 years ago), most everyone recommended NOT taking US-93 from I-40 across Hoover Dam (instead, opt for the longer route of taking I-40 to US-95 and then US-95 into Las Vegas). Is this still the recommendation or is the route across Hoover Dam now an OK option? I will be towing a car.

There's a new bridge that bypasses the dam. US93 is mostly 4-lane, and is being upgraded to an Interstate.

They built a new bridge to bypass the dam a few years back so you don't have to detour.

We traveled US93 to LV last month. No problems. The highway crosses the Colorado and Hoover Dam on a bridge high over the dam.

No problem. You don't cross over the dam anymore. There is a brand new bridge. Just make sure you're in the center lane when you cross the bridge because it can be windy. There's actually a sign posted to use the center lane for RVs and trucks.

Have fun in Las Vegas
