Norcold refrigerator not working on inverter

Yahoo Message Number: 107355
On our first trip in our 2007 CC Tribute 260, am unable to run Norcold 1210M refrigerator when moving on AC. Will run if generator is on. This is our first RV...newbies need help!

Thanks,

If Gen isn't on then you don't have access to the fridge. It is made to run on propane when it doesn't have shore or Gen power.

Larry.....

My CC is a 2007 Tribute 260.

One of the first things we did was to have a beautiful Samsung 197 residential refrigerator installed. Total cost was about $2K but our extended warrenty paid all but $500 deductible because we were having similar problems with the "No Cool" also. We have so much more space in the refrigerator and unlimited ice. We installed a $250 dedicated inverter for the Samsung. In storage, we keep it running by just plugging the coach into a 110 outlet.

There are so many reasons to replace your NC but this biggest one is the possibility of Fire. Too many coaches have been destroyed by ammonia based refrigerators....both Norcold & Dometic. There is currently a class action lawsuit against NC.

Did you buy new house batteries when you bought this coach? Have you checked your house batteries? Loose or dirty connections may be causing your problem. Have you checked your NC fuses?

Too many variables. Best thing is to find an experienced electrical RV tech to solve the problem.

Hope this helps a little.

We have a norcold in our 2000 allure and it doesn't run from the inverter, only ac and gen. When there isn't any ac or gen it switches to propane. Make sure you have it in auto and your gas valve open and propane detector turned on to allow gas to flow. Check it out when you are parked and you can hear it light on outside. This saves electric when you are dry camping as the fridge would drain your batteries fairly quickly.

The propane runs the freezer, but does not cool the refrigerator. I have read posts about the repair for that. And we have joined the class action suit. Our intention is to switch to the Samsung once we return from this trip. But in the meantime, would like to run it without the generator as we are boondocking and can't always run it overnight. If I run a cord from the Norcold to the microwave outlet and unlug the microwave, is the Magnum ME2000 inverter pure enough to run it?

It uses a lot of battery if you run off inverter. You should have 2 outlets behind it. One for icemaker and one for fridge.

Switch the plugs as the outlet for the icemaker is powered from the inverter.

Should work temporarily. I found out about this because mine were backwards and couldn't figure out why batteries barely made it through the night.

AMEN to D. Jean's advice.

Buzzing that the propane cools the freezer, but not the fridge area - as the same cooling unit feeds both areas (I believe...). We usually found our Norcold 1200 (2004 Allure) propane kept the freezer and fridge cooler then the electric.

Has the burner portion of the propane been serviced lately? And yes, with the vent off of the back of the unit from outside, do look into the areas with a flashlight. Look for cobwebs and any signs of leaking coolant. If any signs of leaking coolants, unplug the unit and toss it. (IMO - They're pure junk. Before we added our Solar Panel and expanded our Battery Bank, I tried hard to retain our Propane for boon docking. I spent the money to pull the unit and install the Amish Cooling Unit from RV Pines. I added additional pancake fans to the rear to expand the air flow over the coils. One added pair set up via thermocouple to cycle on when needed. The second pancake pair, mounted down low and angled up towards the back of the fridge to be sure to cycle air over the coiled cooling lines, was connected to an on/off switch I had inside to the coach. Would turn these on manually whenever we were in very hot and or humid conditions. We also added the SS-30 Halon Extinguisher, and a battery powered smoke detector in the cabinet behind the fridge. I elected to not do the last Mickey Mouse recall from Norcold.)

Once we determined that our expanded battery bank (800AH's of X's 4 L16 Lifelines) and 1200W's of Solar Panel were more then robust enough to cover our day to day electrical needs, I tossed the Norcold and went to the Samsung route. Only downside, was losing the junk drawer below our fridge. But we both like the more room, and gee - ice cream that is not soft:)!

Best of luck to you on this,
