Bed pulled from wall

This is the second time that this problem has happened to me, so I thought I would ask the board and see if anyone else is having this problem.

When I lifted the queen bed up, it pulled away from the wall. Now, this creates a real problem because the hydrolic lift arms extend and keep the bed away from the wall, leaving very little room around the bed to walk. This would also cause a problem when the bedroom slide comes in. I think the bed would crush against the cabinet drawers and cause a real mess. I know that I am not explaining this very well, but bear with me.

To fix the problem, I had to have Sherry lift the bed while I crawled under it to remove the hydrolic lift arms, so I could push the bed back against the wall. (I do not recommend having your wife do this if she is the slightest bit mad at you.) This is temporary, but it will have to do for now.

The first time this happened, I called John Bickel, at Country Coach. He said that this was the "first time he had ever heard of this happening." Well, he just heard it the second time.

Has this happened to anyone else?

Tom,
Sherry,

Same thing happened to me except my better half and I were on the bed and asleep at the time. The 3 screws that hold down platform bed against the headboard sheared way. When that happened the mattress and all aboard were propelled by the struts about 18 inches from the headboard and came to a sudden shocking stop. Talk about a rude awakening, we thought something had hit the side of the coach until my wife realized that the room was smaller and our heads were no where near the headboard. The next day I called CC and they told me the same thing they told you. However, in my case they speculated that the screws had been damaged when they were over torqued during assembly. If the screws sheared way in yours then it might have been the same assembler who did my coach did yours. This happened in March of '03 about 4 months after I picked up the new coach. I took the coach to Shultz RV in Indianapolis, where they re-attached the platform with 6 screws instead of
3. I haven't had a problem since then. They also replace the struts with
lower rated ones. The new struts work fine and hold the platform up when I need it. If you haven't done so already you might want to add the extra screws and ask about the lighter struts.

Thanks, Jose

Your bed experience sounded like a lot more fun than mine almost falling on my head.

I appreciate your advice on how to cure the problem. Have you had any more problems since the bed was fixed? I had my first bed experience fixed by CC in April 03. I guess they will need another try to get it done right.

Tom,

Fortunately, I've not had a problem since the platform was re-attached. Good luck to you.
