awning repair/replace/ stitching coming out.

We have a 2008 coach with 4 awning that the threads are coming apart. I am wondering if anyone has had the opportunity to remove and sew or can refer us to a company that can take them off and resew or is it better just to replace by the time they take them off?? THanks for your help.

Needs to be re stitched with UV resistance thread at a sail repair shop! Good luck! Dennis

I had bought some upholstery thread and some upholstery needles and double stitched where the cotton thread had deteriorated. Not difficult unless you don't like to be on a ladder. Time consuming.

Fabric glue and paper clip until dry. Has held up for years.

Had the same problem, we were staying in Austin Texas next to the lake and we went to the sailing store for some sailing tape. We applied it on the underside of the awning where the seam and thread were. A year has gone by and it is holding perfectly. It is similar to this link I found:

Millies in Eugene OR restitched ours. We went to Carrier RV Service in Eugene, they removed the awnings, took them to Millies, and had them back on by 100 pm. Did nice work.

Lee,

Suggestion: Apply fabric cement with a few hand clamps. Let it dry before you begin stitching. This with assure you of a straight and even seam as it will keep the fabric from bunching and squirming around. I have used the sail-maker's awl on canvas and sail cloth. I used heavy bees waxed thread and a little bit of wax on the awl for lube to make things go smoother and with less force. It is is a slow and painstaking task. But it works very well. I never had a repaired seam fail.

I forgot. It pays to use a sail maker's palm protector. A goat or pigskin glove on your stitching hand will help.

You are right! I had pictured that you were repairing an exposed accessible seam. Did the stitches part at the point where the fabric wraps around the piping that slides into the aluminum extrusion? That is where my Zip Dee stitches failed due to UV damage and wind strain. Tough job while still attached.
But, anybody who can build an RV garage as a DIY mason using local stone can certainly conquer this task! Daron
