Coolant Flush with Hurricane Furnace

My 2000 Magna has a Hurricane furnace that shares coolant with the engine. There is no surge tank on the furnace, it uses the engine coolant tank.

My question is how do I flush both the engine and the Hurricane systems?

Do I turn on the Hurricane heat exchanger pumps during the flush and refill? Do I also turn on the two bus pumps that provide engine coolant to the dash heater?

I'm not going to do the work myself but I doubt the service facility I use will know that the Hurricane system is connected to the engine.

That is not how it works. There is an engine coolant loop that goes thru the Hurricane to heat the water via the circulation of the engine coolant. You will not affect the Hurricane when changing engine coolant.

As stated before, engine coolant is circulated into the Hurricane heater. It is routed through a heat exchanger where the Hurricane heater also has a loop. This way, engine coolant heat will be transferred to the Hurricane Heater coolant when you have the engine at operating temperature. It operates in reverse when the engine is cool and you have the heater on (transfers heat to the engine). While the engine coolant and Hurricane Heater coolant are both within the heater, the are separated by the heat exchanger. You should have a Hurricane Heater coolant recovery tank within the compartment where the heater is located. If not, how are you monitoring the coolant level in the heater?

That is not true of the older units with Hurricane heaters (about 2002 back). The post as stated is likely true considering the year and model of the coach.

You simply run the hurricane for a little while as you're doing the flushes. It's that simple. You also turn the dash heat on. If you're paying somebody else to do it be advised it takes many flushes like at least 5 and the use of a chemical cleaner to properly flush the entire system especially the engine in the radiator. I did it this spring.
