need advice on purchasing a 2004 Country Coach Inspire

Hi,

This will be my first rv. I have been doing my research & have come across a 04 Inspire Genoa with 70k miles. I know there a few things i need to look out for on this model like the dry PTO, aluminum radiator & issues with slide roof leak. Are there any other items besides the normal RV issues i should be aware of? Would love to get some feedback from other Inspire owners as to what they like, dislike & would change.

Well.. You are starting at the top. So there are a lot of things to learn about an Rv in general.
Putting the regular RV stuff aside, and just my opinion to keep an eye out for with country coach.
See what kind of hurricane Furnace you have, XL are great when running, but that is a very expensive repair. and big ticket to replace $10K. They don't make XL anymore and support is limited.
Check the slides where they meet the coach. Country coach used aluminum around the outside of the seals, which cause electrolysis. Another expensive repair, pushing north of $20K.
Make sure the motor HP is not under powered. That is so expensive that you just have to live with it.
Check production date on tires. It is a 4 digit number, first 2 digits are the week, the last 2 digits are the year. Every 7 years they should be replaced. about $4K to replace Check all awning fabric. That gets a little pricey as well.
If you have a front pull out generator, there has been a known problems with fuel line problem. Cause generator to cut off. I heard that was expensive.

If you buy the coach, I would defiantly call Kevin 541-953-6162. He did have a program a few years ago, ( for a small fee), he gives you tech support. (It was a great value) You are jumping into coach, (My feeling), it is a lot more then an RV. You can do it, but there are some learning curves just like with anything. Kevin use to work at country coach while theses things were being produced. He has a wealth of information, and contacts.
Remember, life in general boils down to 2 decision, boredom, or torture.

Thanks for the all great insight. The tires are from 2015. It does not have a hurricane furnace. In regards to the aluminum around the slide seals, what exactly should I be looking for? I know about the typical issue of the with the seal / molding cracking near the top corners of the slides on the cc Inspire. Is there something else I be aware of?

I believe the 2004 Inspires had 350 Cummins engine. If it does, you might not have a PTO issue. As for the engine power I don't think that would be an issue. The Inspire in 04, 05, 06 did not have the generator that slid out the front. I think the 04's had Atwood furnaces as well as water heater. Most everything Bob listed would need to be checked.

I would contact Kevin Waite (541) 953-6162 and ask him about most of these issues. He will be able to confirm the engine and heater mfg. Kevin has a wealth of info he can help you with.

Depending on the coaches location I would have a professional take a look at the coach.

Hi Fred,

Thank you for the information. I am aware that I am not buying a top of the line coach. This rv does have the aluminum radiator. Will an extended warranty cover the cost of replacement? Do you know anyone who has experience with this & which insurance company they used?

I would call Oregon Motor Coach and ask to speak with Jim Cooley, Service Director, and Eric Olstrum at Premier coach Service center in Tucson and ask them which company gives them the least amount of hassles. All of them only want to pay providers costs and not to allow them to make much of a profit. The provider has to keep his doors open and pay his techs a living, so there are always struggles between the three parties. The situation is never ideal. And sometimes you insurance company might get involved, too if there is an external damage issue. I decided a long time ago to keep an amount in savings, and gave up on paying service premiums. The only time I ever came out ahead is when I cracked a block on my 7.3 liter Ford diesel and Western payed for a new short block as they couldn't find a used block. TWI 2004 Intrigue 11731

Test strips, testing the PH level. Three kinds of coolant. Green, Red or Blue. Blue is "Oat" and has to be tested. Go to Auto parts store and see if they have PH test strips. I had Green coolant and I think they just wanted a reason not to pay.
