Fuel Tank Leak / Serpentine Belt / Wet Kit

Yahoo Message Number: 108476
Hello - I took my coach in for a chassis inspection and they had several recommendations.

The fuel tank has a leak coming from the top. In order to fix, they are estimating 8 hour of labor to lower it down to repair. I believe you can access the top of the tank from inside the coach. Since I am not 100% familiar with all the access areas from inside, can anyone tell me which panel to access? I am sure I can handle this on my own if its a hose or loss hose clamp. I would hate to spend $1k to replace a hose.

The also said the serpentine belt is worn and needs replacement. I am going to buy a couple and handle myself. Does anyone have a recommendation for a brand and part#?

They also determined it doesn't have a wet kit on the PTO, so I have ok'd the install.

Thanks for any advise.

Todd, I don't have advice for accessing the top of your fuel tank but coincidentally, at my last fill-up I had about 2 quarts of diesel spill from the top of my tank onto the ground. At the time I attributed it to some sort of venting arrangement, but now that I rethink it, that doesn't seem plausible. Would appreciate you sharing what you learn as your repairs are made.

Hey Todd was this at Colton? I've found them to be very good, and very thorough. And while their hourly rate is fair, I think they sometimes pad those estimates. They quoted me 16 hours labor to swap the CAC, so I decided to do it myself when I get a chance since I'm pretty sure I can do it quicker than that, and my rate is $0. But if those are the only issues they found, it sounds like you're in good shape. I have a nice long hit list of things I need to get to on my '98, although I've already done the urgent stuff.

Good luck with that tank leak. I'll be interested to hear whether you are able to access the top of it through the interior of the coach. Ours are a few years apart but I'd never heard of any of them having a hatch in the floor over the fuel tank.

I have had two instances of fuel leaks in that area, you might check .
first it was the fuel line to the generator had become old and cracked . Second the left fuel filler hose became old and cracked. I replace both sides the other side was due to fail. I was told the new fuels ruin the rubber on fuel lines and have had other owners experience the same. Both easy fixes did it on my own!

I have doubts about the tank leaking itself, the tank has two filler necks (most probable leak point) and the gauge on the side which is magnetic. I'd do some checking..

The serpentine belt is an easy fix, utube it, all you need is a 1/2 in long handle ratchet. Put on the new one save the old one for a back up. Don't buy and store a new one for years it will bad by the time you use it.. Do check the idler, tensioner pulley for bearing noise the do get old.

I had a problem with my 2003 intrigue. Especially in the hot weather they feel would leak from the top of the tank onto the ground sometimes it would be a quart or more. After a lot of money in and a lot of frustration Cook Cummings in Coburg Oregon finally found the problem the vent line from the top of the tank was clogged. I would check that vent line. I'll bet that's a problem. Any questions give me a call 951-285-5435. Glen Coulter 2003 intrigue.

Thanks Glen. I will check that. The only time I smelled raw fuel was in the AZ desert at 104.

Looks like you are near by. I am also a 951 area code. I'm in Riverside at the 91 and Pierce.

I had leaks on top of the tank, but it wasn't the tank, it was the wrong type of hose CC chose to feed the Genset and the Hydro-hot. After the hoses were replaced all a has been well since. I had Bob at Beaudry replace all the hoses. He was originally a team leader at CC in the late 90's and early 2000. He then went with Chris Snyder and Eric Olstrum to do warranty work at Beaudry in Tucson. He now works at Lazy days in Tucson. Eric has his own shop in Tucson, Premier coach service center. Chris is in Roseburg Oregon. Of course, Oregon Motor Coach Service center can do the work, too. TWI 2004 Intrigue 11731.

Last year, I had a fuel line air leak to the generator and had the hose replaced by Rick Horner in Punta Gorda, FL. The fuel tank was full. The time to drop one side of the tank and replace the hose was under 4 hours, with the job made more difficult by the full tank.

I could reach the top of the fuel tank by squeezing above the propane tank, but was unable to replace the line without dropping the tank. I did not have the equipment to do it. Mr. Horner's crew dropped one side of the tank down far enough to get to the fuel line. To my knowledge, there is no access to the tank from above.

I have had them work on my coach in the past and they are very good.
