Inspection for 2004 Country Coach Inspire Genoa

Hi group,

I will be scheduling the inspection of the 2004 Country Coach Inspire Genoa I intend to buy. Can anyone recommend a good inspector in Alabama? The rv has the wet pto kit but unfortunately has the original radiator. I am aware of the need to focus on the seals on the top corner of the slides. Are there any other particular things I should make sure the inspector focusses on? If the rv passes inspection I will want to replace the flooring in the bedroom with vinyl / engineered wood & replace the jack knife sofa with a leather recliner. Can anyone recommend a good flooring person in Alabama ( I know about ernie remodeling but he is backed up & in Texas)? Has anyone bought sofas for their rv from Wayfair?

Tires and batteries are a big expense, be sure to factor that into your negotiation.  Also the inverter(s), but I don't know how you can really check them, they either work or they don't, but have a hard look at them. As you say, look at the Sikaflex seams on top exterior of slide room rooms, and look for water damage inside. If you do buy it, bypass the dash heat pump, if it has one. Good luck!

Thanks Greg. The rv has new batteries & 2015 tires. Can you please clarify what you meant by "bypass the dash heat pump"?

We bought an extended warranty via Portfolio Protection. As part of that they did an inspection on the coach. One thing that I don't think they inspected well was the hydrohot. We never ever could get the bedroom heat to work using the comfort control. A genius in Montana bypassed that and installed a thermostat and switch in the bedroom.

It is the secondary pump that pumps hot engine coolant up to the front of coach for dash heat to come up to temp quickly. It will fail and you will lose all your coolant, shutdown coach in about 20 seconds. It is sometimes referred to as a "school bus pump" (Bluebird used it) or a "pusher pump". It is discussed quite a bit on this forum, and mosy of us have bypassed it and pulled the fuse. It is located near the turbo and gets too hot, and it also runs all the time, whether you use heat or not. As such, the seals eventually fail.

I looked at Portfolio Protection but they have a dreadful reputation. I prefer to hire my own inspector & have him do a thorough inspection for things that will matter to me rather than rely on a warranty company's inspector that will only focus on stuff that they are concerned about covering.

Abe,

Last year I replaced the jackknife sofa in my 2005 Inspire with a double recliner made by Clay Madison.
I purchased it through Amazon.

The installation was pretty straightforward, I did have to make mounting brackets from angle iron to accommodate the recliners depth.
I hope your inspection goes well.

No I don't know, sorry. I doubt Prevost would do that though, it is a pretty well recognized design mistake amongst the CC people. It should have had a switch installed on it to just run when you need dash heat. It's an easy retrofit though. It is just so shocking when it fails, you have so little time to figure it out and get to side of road, with perhaps no power steering. I was very lucky, failed once pulling into a campsite, and again just past some massive road construction. I think I have used up all my luck now!

Remember there is another pump up front, too. I rarely fails. The only time I ave had to use my Road protection plan was for when the rear pump failed. Fortunately, I was able to drive the 100 or so miles to an Rv park first and was not caught ion the side of the high way. That said I had one of the miniature cooling hoses fail between the engine block , cooling tank and radiator which brought me to a dead stop. TWI 2004 Intrigue 11731
