Plumbing Bay Heating (or lack thereof)

I keep a Radio Shack remote thermostat in my plumbing bay.
Night time lows were in the high 20s, the bay temp was around 38 or so.

During our trip home this week, the bay temp got down to 18 degrees while driving. The outside temps were from 27 down to 12 degrees.
I tried changing the setting on the bay thermostat, thinking I had it set the wrong way, I could hear a click when turning the dial, but really made no diff in the output. I drove a while with the switch at diff settings to be sure.
The location of the switch makes it hard to see the calibrations.
I have the Hurricane heater.

I had the master switch on, as the they say it must be on for the bay zone to be active.

I had the interior zones on, and also tried with them off.
Just curious if anyone else monitors the bay temp, and if so, how effective their heater is.

The Hydronic Heating Diagram #D0024055 shows a solenoid valve that should close to allow the fluid to flow through the bay radiator, maybe that is staying open, bypassing the bay radiator. I assume the bay thermostat controls this solenoid?

We left Joplin, MO Thurs morn, planning on stopping for the night at Effingham, Il. then on to Holland, MI Friday. However, they changed the forcast for Effingham from 17 and no snow, to -11 degrees with 2- 3" snow. I had no choice but to just continue on to Holland. 700 miles, and 14 hours, the last 300 miles in snow, with outside temps down to 10 degrees. With the bay not heating, Lenore would go run water in the sinks and toilets every half hour to prevent the pump from freezing. Ever drive through Chicago at rush hour, in a snow storm? What a treat.

Congratulations on getting through Chicago, period...
My son and family live in Evanston, IL and we live South and East. Last time we had to approach Chicago from the East via I-80. Yuuch, it took at least 6 hours to drive from Elkhart, IN to IL Beach State Park, N of Chicago near Zion. That was in good weather in early October.

Simliar experience last year with the water pump.
Could not find anything local so I talked with the manufacturer and interestly enough, they suggested that with the exact part number I could get the pump "much" cheaper for Camping World than direct from them, even if Camping World had to order it...They were correct...about $30 or so. I had to wait a couple of days, as I remember. Both of them were less that CC, of course....
I also checked on the water filters with that manufacturer and the same applied.

Just make sure that sure you have the exact part numbers off your units.

Other pumps and filters can be used but, of course you have to repump to match them up to your system...Camping is suppose to be fun so I avoided this option...(G)
