Black water and grey water valve replacement

Replacing the sewer valves and the broken flange fitting that slides inside the black water outlet pipe and interfaces with the black water valve. Not sure how the flanges was originally sealed to the outlet pipe. Slides inside the outlet pipe and is a very tight fit and has a hose clamp to hold it in place. Didn't want to use a regular sealant because it would make that part difficult/impossible to remove. A RV tech recommended a butyl gutter sealant. Said the part would still be removable. Any different suggestions or has anyone use the butyl sealant?

The valves I have replaced have an "O-ring" on the face of each side eliminating the need for sealant. Did the one you removed have the "O-ring"?

l Just did the replacement on my 1998 affinity. Used the butyl rubber sealant. Make sure the new fittings have the same size outside diameter. My coach had smaller diameter ones than those that I have used in the past. So the one I ordered from amazon wouldn't fit so I had to reuse the ends that went into both the black water and grey water tanks.

Have the "O Rings" in the valve. I'm looking at the part that goes into the tank, it's a very tight fit. Actually tried it without sealant, black water side leaks slightly, grey water side does not.

Mine fit. How much sealant did you use? I'm going to put the sealant on the part that goes into the tank so I can control the surface area that the sealant is on. Concerned about being able to remove the part in the future.

Hello, If you're talking about the ABS pipe connection. I used a regular white plumbers non hardening joint compound and it worked great no leaks and easy future removal.

I just discussed the issue with an RV tech that in the past has given me good information. He uses silicon sealant and said neither the silicon or the butyl will adhere to the polyethene tank or the ABS part, he's used both but prefers the silicon. Said it wouldn't be a problem removing the partrr at a lter date. Got some good info, need to think about it, not leaking very much may decide to wait until I return to Tucson to fix.
