5-6 years ago, another CC owner (Sorry, forget who it was:)!), answered my question about 8D starting batteries. He said he had found that CAT had an 8D with the highest CCA ratings of any battery he could find.
I looked a bit, and sure enough that was still true when I replaced ours.
Again this was 5-6 years ago. It had 1500 CCA, and was Maintenance Free. It out gasses very minimally, so little, that I've only cleaned the posts one time in the 5-6 years it's been installed. (And frankly they did not really need it.)
Has worked well for me.
That being said, when this does need replacement. I'll probably go with an AGM. This way I can close off the bottom of the compartment from the dust and moisture that can work it's way in from the bottom cage wire:)! (More of a convince from a maintenance point of view, as now I do a yearly or so major heavy brushing and vacuuming of the dust out of the full compartment area. And also because when the House X's 4 L16 Lifelines need replacement, I'll shift to lithium. Weight savings, faster recharge, longer life cycles. But, they like a protected heat range to live well, so closing off the compartment is a plus. No outgassing from AGM chassis, would allow this to be pretty much an air tight compartment. And I'll also either add heating pads, or share a compartment heat duct with his compartment, to support a temperature range control of this compartment.)
Might take a look at the CAT, it's treated us well, and was not too much of a premium cost to obtain Maintenance Free (I did open the caps one time in these 5-6 years, and sure added water, but they really did not need any, it was more of a dribble into each cell:))!
