2000 Allure Locker Door Hinges?

Yahoo Message Number: 109455
Hi,

I have a 2000 Allure. The doors on two of my outside locker doors have started to come apart at the hinge at times; that is the door hinge section comes unhooked from the coach body hinge section. I can reconnect the hinge sections and continue using them, but it is frustrating. Is there anything I can do to remedy this problem?

Thx,

Brian,

These are known as "Continuous Hinges". The door half of the hinge is designed to release from the body half only when the door is lifted high. Normally the gas deck props limit the travel to prevent the two halves from parting. Have the deck props been replaced with non-stock extra long units that extend too far? ...Or, have the hinge extrusions been deformed? Either of these conditions may cause release.

There are great epoxy's that will attach solid to frame.

I had an "ouch" experience with one of my storage doors and reinstalled it with hollow wall anchor bolts from Lowes/ Home Depot.

.40 - 3/16 inch x 3 inch Hollow Wall Anchor Toggle Bolts (50) [TB3163] :...

Been good for two years now and don't see why it won't last.

Daron,

The props have been replaced, but I was very conscious about matching the new ones to the previous ones, both length and strength. I don't know of a time the doors were opened too far, but it may have happened. What do you think about laying a 2"x 4" on the hinge while closed and hitting the board once or twice with a hammer? This should snug up the hinge a bit. I'm also considering just using shorter props so the doors don't open as far.

Thoughts?

Brian,

You might try that but I think it may be very difficult to control the force. If you squeeze it too far it will squawk upon operation. That extrusion is medium tempered (T-5) that gets more brittle with age. Pretty tricky! I do not know if it is still available but, have you thought about replacing the offending hinge? That type of hinge was also used on lift doors for pick-up truck covers and removable RV tables for many years.
