Michelin 295/80R22.5 in lieu of 12R22.5 on tag and drive on 2001-200

Yahoo Message Number: 110531
I apologize in advance if this topic has been covered. Don't really know how to search for specific topic. Would be happy to take guidance on the subject.

I have a 2002 42' Affinity with tag. 2014 315/80R22.5 XZA2 ENERGY Michelins on steer (original size) and 2011 Toyos 12R22.5 (the original tire size) on the drive and tag. Michelin only makes the XZE for this size anymore.

Looking to replace the 6 drive and tag tires.

Can anybody comment on the XZE ride in 12R22.5?

Has anybody put any of the below 295/80R22.5 (the three Michelin tires available on the FMCA site) on their tag and drive axles on a 2001-2001 Affinity or Magna? I think the 295 is about an inch shorter and same width.

Pretty set on Michelins, and if I stay with 12R22.5, the only choice is the standard XZE. If I go 295/80R22.5 I can go XZA2 ENERGY 152M or X MULTIWAY 3D XZE.

Anybody know if there is a significant difference in XZE vs X MULTIWAY 3D XZE?

Or 295/80R22.5 of any maker on their 2001-2003 Affinity or Magna?

Thanks for the response!

A tire guy I was talking to today said the XZA2s were a much better ride and about 1" shorter in height overall, same width and same load rating as the XZE. So it sounds like there wasn't any fitment issues. I'm really leaning towards replacing the 12R22.5s with 295/80R22.5 XZA2s.
I saw on some old posts speedometer will read faster than actual. Does the speedometer run off the Steer or Drive tires?

A little bad info previously.....the XZA2s have about 500 lb more load rating and are slightly wider but require the same dual spacing as the XZEs.

The specs for the XZA2s

295/80R22.5

Loaded radius overall diameter overall width approv wheels min dual space 19.1 41.3 11.8 8.25, 9.0 13.2

revs/mile max load single max load dual 503 7830 @ 120 psi 6940

315/80R22.5

Loaded radius overall diameter overall width approv wheels min dual space 19.5 42.3 12.5 9.00 13.8

revs/mile max load single max load dual 492 9090 @ 130psi 8270@130

For the XZE 12R22.5

Loaded radius overall diameter overall width approv wheels min dual space

19.8 42.6 11.4 8.25, 9.00 13.2

revs/mile max load single max load dual

486 7390 6780

It would be great to be able to put the 315s on the drive and tag for extra safety but it would be cutting it close on the dual spacing and the extra width. The 12Rs are actually taller by .3 than the 315s (which also means total tire height all the way around the coach is withing .3" overall and .3 load radius difference when running 315s/12Rs, taller in the back vs a 1" overall and .4 load radius difference, taller in front, running 315s/12Rs.

Is this significant when it comes to ride height when changing from 12Rs to 295s?

Anybody put 315s on the back on a 01-03 Affinity or Magna with C12 or is not an option given fitment?

Thanks!

I have installed 315 80 22.5 tires on all tire positions on my 2003 Magna. These are not Michelin tires. They are Continental HSL1 Coach tires installed by Les Schwab in Junction city in 2012. I have since replaced the front two with Michelin 315s. When I replace the drive and tag tires in the future it will be with either 12R or 295 80s. The Conti 315s fit on the 8.25 wheels and clear the wheel well trim....but just barely. I don't believe the Mich 315 are speced for 8.25 wheels.

I'm thinking the speedo probably runs off the drive tires. I've got oversize tires all around on my '08 Allure and both the speedo and the cruise control run lower than actual speed as shown on the GPS. The difference is about 5%. When I call up 60 mph on the cruise, the speedo shows about 60, but the rig is running 3 mph faster - at 63 mph. Similar % differences apply across the range.

The speedo is actually driven from the engine ECU. The ECU can be programmed to make the speedo correct .
