ATTN: Honda CR-V Toaders

The following July '03 Honda Service News, which was supposed to be passed on to owners of '02/'03 Honda CR-Vs may apply to '04's, too:
"When towing, the key is left in accessory position. The accessory relays are still on, so they will draw enough current to deaden the battery by the end of the day. To avoid this, pull the No. 8 fuse (7.5 amp) after completing the pre-tow procedure as listed in the owner's manual. Reinstall the fuse before driving the vehicle because the key could accidentally be removed while in gear."

I have a 1999 Oldsmobile Alero. The manual says to pull some fuses, but the battery was still dead after a few hours. I finally put a battery disconnect on so I don't have to jump it each time. I put a 12V plug directly to the battery for the Brake Buddy. No more problems.

Hmmmm, I wonder if that applies to the 03 Accord? I tow one and have noticed that it will run the battery down if towed for a long day?
Since having that happen, I make a pit stop every twice in a while and let the car run for five minutes or so, in gear. The theory is to warm and oil the transmission completely and keep the battery charge up.
Also. I have been experiementing with it and find that I need to be sure to shut off the H/AC system including putting the system on "recirculate" prior to shutting it off. The theory is to shut off the outside vents and avoid the odors inside the car from diesel smoke, etc. That seems to help.

Anyone else tow an Accord with similar success?

I have not had problems with this battery drain with my 2002 Honda CRV. I just make sure the radio and A/C & Fans are off.

I have not tried pulling the fuse, but I would be concerned about the following if using a toad braking system that relies on power from the "accessory" cigarette lighter.

My measurements show that the key needs to be in ACCESSORY or ON to have power to the cigarette lighter, a feature I hate for other reasons (can't leave a cellphone charging without a key inserted).
If pulling the fuse cuts power to the "accessories", make sure you have power to the cigarette lighter if the fuse is pulled and you rely on that power for the buddy brakes. Maybe you are lucky and the fuse only cuts power to some "accessories".
