Honda CRV towing

Yahoo Message Number: 8506
We purchasrd a new CRV in 1999 and when it came time for the first trip, I found that the instructions given to me by the salesman and what the manual said did not agree. I called the national service hotline for Honda USA and was told a completely different procedure by their tech. Theey faxed me the instructions and latter sent me a letter outlining the new procedure. They were amazed that the manual in the car had the wrong procedure. It had to do with going thru all the gears before putting in neutral for towing. I sent a note to the FMCA magazine along with the letter which were printed in the magazine. The upshot of the whole thing is that some people sued Honda for damages to their transmissions. It became a class action suit and all those that signed onboard as CRV owners who towed their cars, where given extended warranties on their transmissions. I have since sold the car, but it was a great toad. My advice is that if you are not sure, call the Honda USA national service line and talk to a tech. If they are not sure they will find out. See you in Tucson.
