Has anyone found any alternative to these damn day night shades with the strings that always break at a reasonable cost? I needed the day night blackout feature. There's got to be something out there perhaps not specifically designed for RVs.

If the shades are in good shape replacing the strings is not expensive. Check out the restringing videos on Youtube. The string kits are on many websites when you are ready to try your luck.

We replaced all ours with MCD blinds with the day/night. They are expensive so we stayed with only the manual option, don't need automatic blinds anyhow. Installed them all ourselves as they are very easy to install. They did screw up on a set, installing the rollers upside down and backwards on the steel brakects, but they were easy to fix and correct but for 300 dollars a blind you think they would take a little more pride in the product. They work better then the original blinds as they are completely blackout at night and give a more modern interior look.

Check out www.blindschalet.com, look under RV Blinds and Shades.

They have the day/night roller shades for much less than MCD shades last I checked. We replaced all of our windows with Blinds Chalet except for the windshield. They are so much better than the original day/night shades! They will send you samples and you can configure the setup anyway you want. We installed them ourselves. Our valances are about 1/2 an inch shorter than the bottom of the blind so you see a bit of the bottom roller peek out, but that is not a problem for us.

Good luck!

I got sick of the broken strings in our bedroom and replaced the shades with a regular household roller shades. I used the chain ratchet type makeing rolling them down easier. They fit quite nicely up under the valance which I had to remove to install the shades. These shades come in various opacities and for our bedroom we chose the fully opaque. Nice for sleeping late in a dark room. Eventually I planned to do all the windows. Of course it does away with the day/night capability but we always had the shades up in the day anyway. My wife hates shades of any kind during daylight hours. No more broken strings,

I'm about half way through replacing the original curtains and shades with MCD double (day and night). I looked at the Chalet roller shades too but I like the way the MCD are adjustable for both retraction speed and and the stop point for each one..

Not cheap but they appear to be very well constructed. I went with the electric up front and manual everywhere else.

We are replacing with MCD or equivalent as the strings break. Colorwise they are nearly identical. They are super easy to install yourself.

No - we did the passenger side living room window. We have MCD over the front window but it was installed (replaced the OEM) before we bought the coach.
